Masterclass Imagine: Big films for small screens with Cory McAbee

Masterclass Imagine: Big films for small screens
The weird science-fiction film Stingray Sam (US, 2009) was specifically created for mobile phones. Filmmaker Cory McAbee will explain the why and the how in his masterclass ‘Big Films for Small Screens’.

STINGRAY SAM

16 to 25 April 2009 – Pathé Tuschinski
www.imaginefilmfestival.nl (news, pictures, and more… )

Cory McAbee is on a roll. A few years ago this American independent director/musician/actorwas asked by the Sundance Film Festival to create a short film that could be viewed on mobile phones. This year saw him back at Sundance with a longer film based on the same principle.
That film is called Stingray Sam and it consists of six episodes, each about ten minutes long. Each episode covers part of the journey of space cowboy Stingray Sam and his pal The Quasar Kid.
For a festival putting the spotlight firmly on the future, the fact that McAbee applies his DIY approach to a format that’s revolutionary for the film world is in itself reason enough to pay attention. But if you’ve ever seen and heard the filmmaker perform, it will be even harder for you to resist the ‘McAbee experience’. After the masterclass ‘Big Films for Small Screens’, you will never look at your mobile phone the same way again.

Stingray Sam: Monday 20 April, start: approx. 2PM, Tuschinski 5
Afterwards: Masterclass
