Huelva Celebrates Latin-American FilmHuelva Festival of Iberoamerican Cinema Here comes the 27th edition of a festival that presides over the Association of Iberoamerican Film Festivals and offers a most comprehensive insight into contemporary Latin-American cinema. Twelve films from first-time or second time directors, representing 10 Iberoamerican countries, will compete for the Golden and Silver Colons, and the Silver Caravel awarding best first or second feature films. Films with a prior festival history include Veronica Chen's Vagon Fumador, which was a runner up in the Critics' Week at the 2001 Venice Film Festival. The 2001 official competition jury is comprised of Chilean actress Tamara Acosta (El Chacotero Sentimental), Cuban actor Jorge Perugorria, Spanish journalist Antonio Gasset, Catalan director Laura Mana, director Antonio Gasset (Dias de Cine) and Carthagena Film Festival head Jorge Perugorria. The Rabida section showcases a festival’s panel of 8 recent Latin American films. Included in this year's selection are Adrian Israel Caetano's Bolivia (from Cannes 2001), Pablo Stoll and Juan Pablo Rebella's 25 Watts, which was awarded a Tiger Award at Rotterdam 2001. The parallel Testimony section will feature two documentary films with great sociological weight: Crónica Palestina, Los Caminos de la Ira by renowned Chilean director Miguel Littin (Jackal of Nahueltoro), about daily life in Palestine, and Eduardo Abel Sahar's Yocavil, los pueblos olvidados, about the Calchaqui culture and crafts in the Argentine Yocavil valley. The new Al-Andalus section focuses on the little-known Andalusian cinema. Films such as Benito Zambrano's Solas or Mateo Gil's Nobody Knows Anybody, which won prizes in festivals and even at their local Oscars ceremonies, are actual Andalusian productions and will be screened during the festival with 5 other titles, including Around Flamenco Tokyo, which focuses on the flamenco fad in Japan. 2001 Huelva Film Competition:Bala Perdida by Aldo Salvini Freyre (Peru, 2001) 21.11.2001 | Editor's blog Cat. : |
