Helsinki International Film Festival continues to grow attracting over 54 000 admissions

The 24th edition of Helsinki International Film Festival - Love & Anarchy attracted a slightly larger audience than in previous years.

This year there were a total of 54 022 admissions, in addition to which Finnish documentaries on MUBI gathered 1767 views.

This year's programme consisted of 145 feature length and 67 short films in 400 screenings. More than one fourth of the screenings were sold out. Amongst the 113 sold out screenings were the Opening Film, Pedro Almodóvar's THE SKIN I LIVE IN, the Closing Film A SEPARATION and the Love & Anarchy Gala Film DRIVE.

Popular screenings also included Tsui Hark's DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME, Miranda July's THE FUTURE, Icíar Bollaín's EVEN THE RAIN and small budget surf and snowboarding films FINNSURF and SIBERIA TEACHES. The success of French-Finnish co- production LET MY PEOPLE GO! was a happy surprise as almost all of its screenings were sold out. The Surprise Film, Sigur Rós documentary INNI was also sold out.

A total of 18 festival films will be theatrically released. Amongst them are Swedish SHE MONKEYS and Norwegian HEADHUNTERS. A list of theatrical releases is attached.

The Finnish Film Event, now organized for the first time at HIFF, gathered an audience more than three times larger than last year.

HIFF screenings continue this week at Kino Iiris in Lahti and Kampus Kino in Jyväskylä.

HIFF warmly thanks the audience and supporters. Next year is the 25th anniversary of the festival.
