BRUNO CHATELIN – MEES FILMIFESTIVALIDE KÕRGEIMAST TAEVAST

Tänavuse MAFF-i žürii töös kategoorias „Inimene ja loodus“ lööb väliskülalisena kaasa prantslane Bruno Chatelin – aukartust äratava haardega ning filmifestivalidel ilma teinud filmilevitaja. Just tänu temale jõudis MAFF-ile mullu festivali Grand Prix' võitnud Rob Stewarti luigelaul „Haide häving“ ning selle 2016. aastal linastunud eellugu „Revolutsioon“, mis pälvis siin esimese preemia.
„Olen kogu aeg filme armastanud, aga sellest enam olen armastanud nende turundamist,“ viitab Chatelin. Selline kirg on viinud ta otse filmitööstuse tippu. Tema karjäär sai hoo sisse maailma suurimates rahvusvahelistes reklaami- ja suhtekorraldusagentuurides Publicis, DMM Masius ja JWT. 1985. aastal palkas USA filmitööstuse üks tollaseid lipulaevasid, Columbia TriStar Pictures (2013. aastast Sony Pictures), ta endale turundusjuhiks. „Mu esimene tööülesanne oli seal õhtusöök Kim Basingeriga,“ meenutab Chatelin. Sealt edasi on töö teda kokku viinud paljude teistegi filmimaailma vägevatega, olgu siin mainitud näiteks Francis Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Sean Penn, Tom Hanks, Al Pacino, Silvester Stallone ja Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Ameti tõttu on Chatelin olnud tihedalt seotud kõikvõimalike maailma filmifestivalidega, eriti koduse Prantsusmaa mainekaima Cannes'i filmifestivaliga.

„MAFF-iga on mul siiani olnud suurepärased kogemused.

It translatesz more or less like this...

-You have very impressive short resume of your career. How did you get into film distribution world - whether you were interested in films in youth already?

Always loved movie, but mostly loved marketing, hence a start with ad agencies, then a search company approached me for the position i found very attractive (marketing director for Columbia Tristar Films) they hired me after a test on the filmStand by me (on a marketing recommandation I wrote) My first tas kwas diner with Kim Basinger … What else… J

-As you are connected with the distribution/promotion of some very prominent environmental films - for example Rob Stewart's Revolution (1st prize at MAFF 2016) and Sharkwater Extinction (Grand Prix at MAFF 2019), what do you consider to be a good environmental/ nature film?

A festival that provides lots of networking opportunities between filmmakers, and also providing a huge echo to the subjects approached in the docs… Important to have a combination of media, buyers and filmmakers peers

-What do you consider to be the most important key questions or aspects of distributing/ promoting environmental films? What are the main difficulties?

Most important question : how broad is the subject ? Will it concern/ affect/ interszt/ question the general audience in their day to day life, or only speak to a niche of specific activists on the subject…. Showing the film,  getting lots of screenings, giving it eyeballs is the most important thing so it can start speaking for itself…  Need for strong world of moutrh in your own community, then expand…

-How popular are environmental films in France? What are the most popular topics in these films?

France is the leading country for many cultural events  offering N° 1 festival (Cannes) for shorts (Clermont Ferrand) Animation (Annecy)… a few docs fests but nothing significant in terms of environment  wjhat a pity, there used to be a strong initiative in Paris which stopped for political reasons !

Disney nature has been leading the way for a long time, very few other films made it to the screen, of course with a few exception with La Marche de l'Empereur, Luc Jacquet, Home Oceans….

-Have you ever made your own film or tried to do filming?

I shoot a lot, ambiance, interviews, take plenty of photos and have been associated in films in a few capacities (production of a short, consultant, festival agent) but i consider my strength be in marketing more than filming.

I love shooting festival ambiance by the way lots of it on my youtube channel  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI13INmCjW6I6rWLlcJd0-w

-How important nature film festival you consider MAFF to be among the others?

So far…. : great experience ! what I know is very encouraging, great communication, good line up, so proud the festival honored Rob Stewart… let me judge the other elements I d love to answer that after my first visit ,

-Have you ever been to Estonia or what are your prior knowledge of this country?

I have been in Tallinn twice before, (Guest of black night film festival)  and was amazed in many ways by the creativity of Estonians… (not only digitally….)
