Göteborg Film Festival TV Drama Vision unveils more 2023 programme highlights
We're delighted to present additional speakers, talks and showcases for the TV Drama Vision! The full programme will be released on January 23.
Among this year's edition highlights are the world's leading game creator and award-winning film director Josef Fares. We will present an exclusive work in progress for the first Netflix-commissioned Finnish drama, Dance Brothers. In the programme we also highlight the need for shared stories and industry-wide solidarity with Ukraine by presenting the initiative Ukraine Content Club. As always, we welcome key Nordic broadcasters and streamers to join us on stage to share their insights and plans for the future. And that's just some of it, we have more to announce!
As previously presented, the 2023 headline for TV Drama Vision is Navigating Disruption and Cultivating Talent. Together with the industry, we will look into how business and financing models are being remodelled, the quest for keeping and engaging the audience, nurturing creative talent, and the need for systematic sustainability throughout the value chain.

Exploring narratives in gaming and film

We are proud to welcome world-leading game creator and award-winning film director Josef Fares to TV Drama Vision 2023!
Fares debuted with his feature film Jalla! Jalla! was one of the most promising Nordic directors in early 2000. Today, Founder and Creative Director of Hazelight Studios, he has risen to the international heights of interactive storytelling with critically acclaimed games such as Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (2013), A Way Out (2018), and It Takes Two (2021). Join in for a close-up interview about Fares' insights into the audiovisual industries and what it takes to cultivate creative talent. The session is in collaboration with Edisen.

Work in Progress: Dance Brothers
Join for an exclusive work in progress of the first Netflix/YLE commissioned drama series from Finland!
Brothers Roni and Sakari struggle to make a living as professional dancers. They start their own club to finance their dreams, which provides income, housing and training space. However, artistic ambitions and personal relationships soon collide with commercial demands. The loyalty and love the brothers have for each other will be tested by the one thing that always united them - dance.
Max Malka, Head of Scripted at Endemol Shine Finland, will join us on stage for the work in progress and share her insights from the production on the need for social and ecological sustainability and how it contributes to the quality of scripted drama.

Closing keynote: Nostradamus @ TV Drama Vision
Media analyst and the author of the Nostradamus Reports Johanna Koljonen will close this year’s TV Drama Vision with a summary and analysis of the two conference days.
The Nostradamus Report is Göteborg Film Festival’s annual report about the near future of the audiovisual industries. The 10th report will be presented at Marché du Film in Cannes in May 2023.

We Are All Ukraine

The need for shared stories and industry-wide solidarity with the Ukrainian audiovisual sector is greater than ever. We are proud to welcome Ukraine Content Club (UCC) to the TV Drama Vision stage in 2023. UCC is a non-profit organisation aiming to build a bridge between the Ukrainian and the international industry and to strengthen Ukraine as a high-end supplier of unique, original and demanded content for international screens.

Those Who Stayed
A woman, 2 kids and 2 husbands. A homeless guy and a kid. A celebrity who swaps safety for an improvised concert in the Kyiv metro. An unlikely hero about to quit who ends up saving a zoo full of animals. In the dark hours of February 2022, when many have left Kyiv, and the world held its breath, waiting for the city to fall, they are THOSE WHO STAYED. There are things worth staying and living for.

Alchevsky's Mystery
In May 1901, a mutilated body of Oleksiy Alchevsky – a rich banker and industrialist - is found on the rails near St. Petersburg railway station. Despite the suicide note found, rumours that it was a murder creep in. Detective Yanovsky takes the case and learns that the deceased reached a high position from the bottom, starting his way as a tea merchant. And during his life, he made not only a fortune of millions but hundreds of enemies.

Jury of Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize 2023
The jury members for the NOK 200,000 (€ 20,000) Nordic drama series screenwriting award are unveiled.
This year’s jury consists of Danica Curcic, actor, Denmark; Nebojša Taraba, producer, Croatia; Wanda Bendjelloul, journalist and critic, Sweden; Leif Holst Jensen, producer and Decan of faculty, TV and Games, at Innland University of Applied Sciences, Norway.
Five Nordic drama series have been selected as the 2023 nominees for the prestigious script award. The winner(s) will be announced at an award ceremony on the evening of February 1.
