Festival of German Films to open in Paris with Nothing But Ghosts

The Festival of German Films will be held in Paris for the twelfth time from 10 - 16 October 2007. In total, 15 new feature films, one TV movie, four documentaries, six shorts and the NEXT GENERATION 2007 short film program will be presented in the Cinéma L’Arlequin.

The festival will be opened by Martin Gypkens' NOTHING BUT GHOSTS (NICHTS ALS GESPENSTER) which received an enthusiastic audience response at the international festival in Locarno. The director and the actresses Maria Simon and Ina Weisse will be there in person to introduce their film to the audience. The screening will be followed by a cocktail for invited guests in the cinema foyer.

The following new German films can be seen in the main program along with the opening film: THE OTHER BOY (DER ANDERE JUNGE, Volker Einrauch), THE CALLING GAME (DIE ANRUFERIN, Felix Randau), MIRAGE (FATA MORGANA, Simon Gross), VACATION (FERIEN, Thomas Arslan), MADONNAS (MADONNEN, Maria Speth), MY FUEHRER (MEIN FUEHRER, Dani Levy), SHOPPEN (Ralf Westhoff) and YELLA (Christian Petzold) as well as THE EDGE OF HEAVEN (AUF DER ANDEREN SEITE) by Fatih Akin as the closing film.

The sidebar entitled „Roulez Jeunesse!" will show HANDS OFF MISSISSIPPI (HÄNDE WEG VON MISSISSIPPI, Detlev Buck), PRUSSIAN GANGSTAR (PREUSSISCH GANGSTAR, Irma-Kinga Stelmach, Bartosz Werner), HEAVYWEIGHTS (SCHWERE JUNGS, Marcus H. Rosenmueller), FOUR MINUTES (VIER MINUTEN, Chris Kraus), WHERE IS FRED? (WO IST FRED?, Anno Saul) and the TV movie WUT (Zueli Aladag).

The six shorts 458nm, DETEKTIVE, FUTURES, HIT THE FLOOR, DIE KNEIPE and MY HAPPY END will be shown in addition to the NEXT GENERATION 2007 short film program.

In addition to the main program, there will be a documentary sidebar programmed by the Goethe Institut with THE RED ELVIS (DER ROTE ELVIS, Leopold Gruen), DIE UNZERBRECHLICHEN (Dominik Wessely) and FULL METAL VILLAGE (Sung-Hyung Cho).

In collaboration with the Berlinale and the German-French Youth Organisation/TV5 Monde, the festival will be presenting the prize-winning film POOL OF PRINCESSES (PRINZESSINNENBAD) in the presence of the director Bettina Bluemner. The German-French Youth Organisation OFAJ is providing support for the journeys of several directors of programmed films to attend the Festival of German Films in Paris.

The event's partners are: ARTE, Goethe-Institut Paris, Mairie de Paris, the German-French Youth Organisation, TV5 Monde, Office du Tourisme Allemagne, Le Monde, Objectif Cinéma, Positif, Les Inrockuptibles, Paris-Berlin, A Nous Paris, le nouvel Obs, Vocable, Paris Mômes, evene.fr, France Bleu, Kodak and Lorenz Snack-World.
