International Encounter on Film Development in Rio

1st International Encounter On Cultural Policies To Film Development & Rio de Janeiro Int Short Film Festival
December 6 - 8, 2001

Where is world cinema headed? Does the appearance of new cinematographies, new industries and new markets depend on protectionist policies in the face of American production? This and other questions are the focus of our attention, principally in the establishment of long-range cultural policies.

Many foreign institutions and foundations have clear policies to support world cinema, especially in developing nations. Many more such actions are being undertaken in Brazil and several other countries.

The First International Encounter will try to clarify support mechanisms, their contributions to cinematographic language and the possibilities of new partnerships and exchange between countries who have always had clear policies of defense of domestic cinema production.

Hubert Bals and Prince Claus Foundations/ Film Festival Rotterdam - EMILE FALLAUX;
