Alison Chernick Wins Best Short Screenplay of Films at Broad Humor Film Festival

Alison Chernick, the director and writer of "The Couple" has won the Best Short Screenplay Award of the produced films at the 2011 Broad Humor Film Festival (www.broadhumor.com)
The 6th Annual Broad Humor Film Festival took place Sept. 29-Oct. 2 at the Electric Lodge in Venice, CA. Broad Humor is the only film festival dedicated to woman-created humor.

"When we started the festival, there wasn't a lot of recognition for women who wrote and directed comedic films," says founder and festival director Susan diRende. "We wanted to turn the spotlight on them. Now the entertainment industry is starting to catch up and see that women are indeed capable of making audiences laugh."
The 2011 Broad Humor Film Festival opened with a hilarious all female stand-up showcase hosted by comedian Victoria Cordova. During the course of four days the festival showed 30 films, included industry workshops, readings of the 2011 Screenplay Finalists. The festivalculminated in an ceremony which presented four awards for the films shown at the festival and seven to screenplays submitted (http://broadhumor.com/films/awards.html).
"The Couple" is an ensemble comedy about an actress and a screenwriter who sit down with a magazine reporter to discuss their new film and their quirky relationship. Directed by Alison Chernick (Matthew Barney: No Restraint, The Jeff Koons Show), "The Couple"stars Juliette Bennett (Don Peyote, As Good As Dead) Ken Forman (Boardwalk Empire, Twilight Zone) and Angela Dee (Brian Pera’s Woman's Picture).
Juliette Bennett for her role in "The Couple" was awarded "Best Actress" at The Manhattan Film Festival (www.manhattanfilmfestival.org) and "Best Actor in a Short Comedy" and "Best Actor in a Short Film" at San Francisco's 2011 BAFF Film Festival (www.thebestactors.com).
