Agnès Varda has been awarded at the 25th edition of Guadalajara Film Festival

Agnès Varda filmmaker, photographer, editor, composer, occasional actress and producer, will receive international homage and will be awarded with the Silver Mayahuel on the 25th edition of Guadalajara Film Festival.

With over than 40 titles on her career, the international critic considers Agnès Varda as "the Nouvelle Vague lady".

She studied at the Sorbonne and the Louvre Schoole and since 1949 she  ventured as a photographer and started reporting in different countries.

The first film she directed was La Pointe Courte, in 1954, where she told the story of a sad couple and their relationship on a small city. This film is the stylist precursor of the nouvelle vague.

Cleo de 5 á 7, is without doubt one of her best films, it was shot a year after Jean-Luc Godard´s Breathless and two years after  The 400 Blows of Francois Truffaut.  The walks down the streets of Paris of Corinne Marchand, while she waits the analysis results almost in real time, are an extraordinary exercise of her style and a proof or her exquisite sensibility for human concerns.

Galloping between documentary and fiction is her most celebrated film, Sans toit ni loi (1985), protagonized by a very young girl Sandrine Bonnaire, it tells the story of a homeless that survives at her own fortune, just as the working plan of this almost improvised film. Here coexist people and actors of this place, and is the seed to a whole series of contemporary realistic films, leadered by the brothers Dardenne y Ken Loach.

Black panthers (1968), Daguerrotypes (1975), Murs Murs (1980), Jane B. Par Agnès V. (1987), Cinévardaphoto (2004), Les glaneurs et la glaneuse (2000), Les glaneurs et la glaneuse... deux ans après (2002), are little master pieces and valuable historic testimonies at the same time. On these documentaries Agnès Varda uses all her creative intelligence paying attention to the small things that configure a greater picture.

On the other hand, we have the tenderness, respect and the rigor that Varda dedicated her deceased husband Jacques Demy, and his wonderful legacy. Jacquot de Nantes (1991), L'Univers de Jacques Demy (1995), and  Les demoiselles ont eu 25 ans (1993).

Her films have granted her numberless awards on the main international film festivals, the Golden Lyon statue in Venice, the Silver Bear statue in Berlin, some Cesar awards, audience and critic awards... and a big etcetera, that have consolidated her as one of the obliged references on international filmmaking.

This year, Guadalajara Film Festival, is honored with the presence of Agnès Varda as the International Homage on its 25th edition.
