Producer of A Hidden Life in Cannes to partner on her new projects

We are so excited that the film I produced A HIDDEN LIFE, directed by Terrence Malick, will premier in competition on the 19th! I hope to see many of you there.

<About Elisabeth Bentley O'Neal>

Elisabeth Bentley, producer of A HIDDEN LIFE, began working to bring the story of Franz Jagerstatter to the screen in 2006 and started collaborating directly with Franziska Jagerstatter, Franz Jagerstatter’s widow, in 2010.

Bentley’s previous films include BEAUTIFUL DARLING (2010) about Candy Darling, Warhol superstar and transgender pioneer, and NANKING (2008).

Bentley has been nominated for a WGA Awared and shortlisted for the Documentary Oscar. Her films have screened at the Berlinale, Sundance, MoMA and the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

In 2019 Bentley founded MARGINALIA to bring the visions of non-legacy filmmakers from the margins to the center.

SYNOPSIS

Based on real events, A HIDDEN LIFE is the story of an unsung hero, Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife, Fani, and children that keeps his spirit alive.
