The Fire RisesSaturday, May 14th saw a large crowd showing for HBO’s newest film Fahrenheit 451, based on the book written by Ray Bradbury* of the same name. It stars Michael B. Jordan, Michael Shannon, and Sofia Boutella and was directed by Ramin Bahrani*, who all graced the red carpet that night to watch Walking in they all meet with booming applause, and were walked to their seat, one by one, as the camera followed them down. Their faces being cased on the screen that was about to show what they’ve spent months being a part of. (The cast of Fahrenehit 451 at the premier) The movie focuses on Guy Montag (Jordan) who’ve spent his whole life fighting fires the only way he was taught, to burn anything form of literature, or graffiti as they call it, in a dystopian society where books are illegal and all history is fabricated. One day he finds a book and begins reading and it changes his life, and he sets of to change society, the society that was always perpetuated by the media and his boss and surrogate father Captain Beatty (Shannon). While backed by a strong budget** and an accredited* entertainment streaming company, it was still met with less than satisfied opinions ranging from okay to bad. Many cite this to the portrayal of the main character and poor writing and any positive criticism goes to the acting of Michael Shannon.
