Shifter(s) Series: Fireside Chat with Ari Aster & Lars Knudsen

Today, the second part of the annual Film Finance Forum was held at the Plage des Palms with Producer Lars Knudsen and Writer, Director, and Producer Ari Aster to discuss their joint venture, Square Peg. Square Peg is a production company that protects directors and helps filmmakers finance films in a time when financing is difficult to obtain. “We’re looking for filmmakers who have a vision that we believe in,” Knudsen told the panel. The duo also spoke on what the company is currently working on and how they keep themselves busy: “For producing, momentum is everything.” Knudsen began. “If you make one, it’s easier to make the rest…you need a big slate to get things made.” The panel ended with a discussion on what seems to be a common theme this year: the future of cinema. “It feels like we’re on a bridge,” Aster said. “It’s a very big, wide, open space, and you have to push things you believe in through.”
