Cannes

The AFCAE (French Association of Art House Cinemas) and the CICAE (International Confederation of Art Cinemas) commends the announcement of the Cannes Film Festival made on 18^th April relating to the Official Selection, for which every film taking part in the competition should have a release in movie theatres in France. It is a reminder of the artistic and cultural values of cinema.

As more filmmakers have pointed out, the movie theatre is the place where films should be showcased on the big screen and shared with an audience. As Pierre Lescure, President and Thierry Frémaux, Director of the Cannes Film Festival pointed out, the event has since its inception the vocation of discovering auteurs and their films, giving them a global perspective. This is one of the safeguards of cultural diversity for global film production.

The CICAE and the AFCAE are both supportive of the commitment of the Cannes Film Festival to broadcast an important number of the Official Selection in movie theatres, including the opening film The Dead Don’t Die by Jim Jarmusch.
