"The Department of Cinema and Cultural Diffusion totally supports your initiation into film production!“
- Cambodian government statement of support from Mr. Sin Chan Saya, Director Department of Cinema and Cultural Diffusion, Phnom Penh Cambodia
FREEDOM DEAL (www.freedomdealmovie.com), a feature film by Camerado SE Asia, now shifts to Phase III of the development process. Thanks to all supporters from Phase II - including a recent contribution by longtime super-supporter of Camerado projects, Rolando Dubioso in Europe. FREEDOM DEAL: the Story of Samnang ('Lucky') takes place during President Nixon's 1970 US-Army of South Vietnam incursion into Cambodia during the Vietnam War - a military operation which launched massive protests in the US, leading to the shooting of students at Kent State and Jackson State universities. Afterwards, the US war effort unravelled completely, leading to the resignation of the President himself. ...but it all started in a remote stretch of Cambodia: => LOGLINE: SPRING, 1970. As part of the escalating Vietnam War, a combined US & Army of South Vietnam military operation enters Cambodia to locate and destroy North Vietnamese and Viet Cong sanctuaries. A Cambodian youth named Samnang (‘Lucky’) rescues downed US soldiers, while evading horrific Cambodian ghosts and foiling Khmer Rouge guerillas, as he journeys to the safety of the provincial capital. During April & May 2012, the Camerado team will be heading to remote areas along the Cambodian-Vietnam border to undertake local talent scouting, including an OPEN CALL FOR TALENT in one of the most remote regions of Asia, along the Cambodian frontier at the real-life location where 'Apocalypse Now' was set.
See participants from the FREEDOM DEAL Team here:
http://www.freedomdealmovie.com/?page_id=196 Characters being sought include the hero of the story, SAMNANG ('Lucky'), as well as Khmer Rouge & Lon Nol Cambodian military; Viet Cong and NVA military; civilian refugees and supporting and extra roles. (*Western US GI, diplomatic, and military roles are being sought separately as part of the next stage of the process)
OUR APPROACH for Stage III: Talent will be wrangled and cast with the assistance of our supportive Cambodian government counterparts (who have already reviewed and approved the script) to shoot and produce several standalone scenes from the screenplay; our team will use the resulting content to generate publicity and further financing to undertake the rest of the picture.
This is the same 'staged approach' viably utilized by a number of notable productions, such as Slingblade.
This is the cutting edge of worldwide independent cinema: we therefore seek the support of film fans around the globe to assist and contribute in any way they can.
Be a part of the process - kindly consider making a contribution to our effort!
Tax deductible contributions for US supporters can be made through our 501 (c) 3 fiscal sponsor in California, USA, the Media Alliance, HERE (or paste http://media-alliance.stores.yahoo.net/intomac6hrme.html into your browser window)

Our needs for the LOCAL TALENT CASTING STAGE include:
Camerado owns much of the essential gear in Phnom Penh to shoot and edit, with these costs being absorbed and sustained; but additional lighting, camera, and grip must be sourced, rented, and brought to location.
