The Reel Recovery Film Festival & Symposium presented by Addiction Policy Forum and Writers In Treatment, celebrating film and the arts through films depicting addiction, alcoholism, mental health issues, treatment and recovery. The week-long festival showcases more than 50 short, documentary and feature films including 6 NYC Premieres and one US Premiere.

8:00pm Eric Clapton: A LIfe in 12 Bars with Special Invited Guests The award-winning music-documentary directed by Lili Fini Zanuck for Showtime, is look at the life and work of guitarist Eric Clapton, told by those who have known him best, including BB King, Jimi Hendrix, and George Harrison.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: Directors/Special Guests Attending at many screenings and ‘Bring Your Sponsor to the Movies’ FREE community screening of Bill W.- the Documentary about the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous with special appearance by its director Kevin Hanlon; US Premiere of the short Second Hand; Addiction Policy Forum Animated series about warning signs with special presentation by Emmy-winning journalist Kimberly Clapp; Wonder Woman Wednesday with films made by women, starring women.

6:00pm Emotional Sobriety & Releasing Shame Video Presentation by Tian Dayton, PhD Q&A Following: Discussion and discourse encouraged Dr. Tian Dayton is a senior fellow at The Meadows Treatment Center, the Director of The New York Psychodrama Training Institute and an accomplished author.
7:00pm Live Discussion with addiction expert, festival founder Leonard Lee Buschel Discussing: “ADDICTION DOESN’T KILL PEOPLE, DRUGS USE KILLS PEOPLE” & “RECOVERY IS A VERB NOT A NOUN” All are encouraged to bring your argument and debating skills, no need to pull punches; Leonard is no “Busch-over.”
8:00pm FREE ADMISSION Special 21st Anniversary Screening Gridlock’d- starring the late Tupac Shakur and Tim Roth (1997) After a friend overdoses, Spoon (Tupac Shakur) and Stretch (Tim Roth) decide to get clean and enroll in a government detox program, what happens next is outrageous.
