Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC celebrates its 2nd year

with more films, broader geographic representation, and special guests

Brownfish Short Film Festival NYC (BSFFNYC) will stage its second annual celebration of the best in short film with 3 days of screenings, workshops, and awards. From November 2nd - 4th, 2012 Brownfish will present 23 films from 6 countries, including the US, UK, Mexico, Canada, Australia and Italy. Festival selections will feature work in a variety of genres (Comedy, Drama, Documentary and Animation) to be screened at Cinema Village, a popular indie film house located at 22 East 12th St in Manhattan.

BSFFNYC 2012 will also include workshops to arm emerging filmmakers with the skills to navigate the independent festival circuit, and the larger world of commercial film. In the Emerging Filmmaker Spotlight, Brent McCorkle will discuss making the leap from festival favorite to his first feature, Unconditional.

Festival Founder and Director Devin Assuncao is a firm believer in the essential role played by grassroots showcases in cultivating a community of sophisticated, thoughtful filmmakers: “The opportunity to see your film on a big screen, meet professionals, and be recognized with awards can boost a filmmaker’s confidence and be leveraged into participation in other festivals,” he says.

BSFFNYC will kick off with an Opening Night Party on the evening of November 2nd at the SoHo Gallery for Digital Art (138 Sullivan Street), and conclude with an awards gala on November 4th, honoring the festival’s best work.
