World Cinema Fund (WCF) expands focus regions: South East Asia and the Caucasus

During the World Cinema Fund Day on February 14 the WCF announced an expansion of the focus regions. Alongside projects from Africa, Latin America, Middle East and Central Asia, filmmakers from South East Asia and the Caucasus can be funded from summer 2007 onwards. The WCF is active in production funding as well as in distribution support. The submission deadline for production funding is March 15, 2007, for distribution support in Germany the deadline is February 27, 2007.
“We always believed in the WCF concept, but the fact that the fund has established itself in the field of cultural film funding makes us very happy. We welcome the fact that the WCF is opening itself to two new regions”, says Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick. “After the positive development of the WCF in the last two years, the new focus regions are an important step for the future success of the initiative.” adds Hortensia Völckers, artistic director of the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
It is the aim of the WCF to support film projects from countries in which the film industry is poorly developed or in which its existence is threatened by political or economical crises. The projects to be supported should deal with the cultural identity of their region and contribute to the development of the local film industry.
The WCF was founded in 2004 as a joint initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Berlin International Film Festival. The Goethe Institute has participated as a cooperation partner since 2005.

Seeking Producer for 90 minute 3D Animated feature { 600,000 $ }

Hello my name is Chamath Paranawidana. I'm from Sri Lanka. I'm a 3D Animation and Visual Effects artist with over 8 years of experience. I have worked in many Sri Lankan films and TV programs. I have a team of exceptionally talented artist and we have made plans to create the first 3D animated feature film ever to be produced in Sri Lanka and establish a solid foundation to the local Animation Industry. I am 26 years old and this is a mammoth task for me and my team of young professionals ( Animators and Film Technicians). We have already started pre production work with my story idea. Scripting, Character designing, location designing, modeling has already started but we are not able to continue any further without financial assistance. We need a sum of 600,000 US$ to complete this 90 minute Animated Feature ( in CinemaScope DTS/DOLBY. Language : English and Sinhala. To be Completed within 2 years) and show what we are capable of doing. This is a very low budget compared to Millions of dollars spent by international Animation producers, but due to the low man power cost and a smaller team is involved we can make this happen at an unbelievable cost and encourage international studios to outsource their work to Sri Lanka. I need your assistance to make this dream come true.

digital film fund

New Project from INdia

Hi,

Paradoxically in a country which is known to dish out "bollywood" films in dozens - nay hundreds, - arthouse films find it difficult to raise production money. I have made two such films, one received Pusan New Currents Awards, and the other is in festival circulation worldwide. I am on to my next film. It has been accepted by Pusan Promotion Plan to be held in Oct 2007.

But then, this may be only a starting point. Can anyone come to my aid to invest in the film. Details will be given if an email is given to kntsastry@yahoo.com
