Voltage Pictures is launching worldwide sales on the highly anticipated teen romance Time is UpVOLTAGE PICTURES LAUNCHES WORLDWIDE SALES ON TEEN ROMANCE “TIME IS UP” STARRING BELLA THORNE
Voltage Pictures is launching worldwide sales on the highly anticipated teen romance Time is Up, starring Bella Thorne and Italian popstar Benjamin Mascolo, it was announced today by President and COO Jonathan Deckter. Voltage will begin talks on the hot title with buyers at the upcoming European Film Market.
Emmy-winning actor Nikolay Moss (“The Cobblestone Corridor”), Roberto Davide (“Doctor Who,”) and Sebastiano Pigazzi (“We Are Who We Are”) round out the cast. Elisa Amoruso (“Chiara Ferragni – Unposted”) directs from a script she co-wrote with Lorenzo Ura and Patrizia Fiorellini.
The teen pic turns on two high-school seniors, Vivien (Thorne), who is an accomplished student with a passion for physics, and Roy (Mascolo), a troubled young man. When an accident forces the unlikely pair to come to a stop and reclaim their lives, one minute at the time, they finally start living in a present that perhaps will prove to be more exciting than any predefined formula.
The film, currently in post-production, is produced by Italy’s Marco Belardi (Perfect Strangers) via his Lotus Production, a Leone Film Group company, with pubcaster RAI Cinema. The English-language film was shot over six-weeks on location in Rome and also in the US.
“We’re thrilled to open this new chapter of our relationship with our friends Andrea, Raffaella, Marco, Francesco, and Carlo at Leone,” said Deckter. “YA romance continues to be a power genre in the international marketplace, and coupled with Bella and Benjamin’s immense online followings make Time is Up an incredibly strong package that we can’t wait to share with our international partners.”
Voltage has emerged as an industry leader in the YA romance space; After starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Josephine Langford, took over $70M worldwide in 2019 and its sequel, After We Collided took over $50M when it opened in select markets from September 2nd 2020. Voltage also sold out worldwide rights on the YA novel adaptation Words on Bathroom Walls, starring Charlie Plummer when it was presented to buyers at the 2020 virtual Marche du Film.
Voltage Pictures, established in 2005, is a privately held, film and television production, financing and sales entity. Voltage has won six Academy Awards including Best Picture for The Hurt Locker, and three Academy Awards for Dallas Buyers Club.
The current Voltage sales slate includes the highly anticipated action-thriller The Marksman starring Liam Neeson, the gangster crime biopic Lanksy starring Harvey Keitel, Sam Worthington and Annasophia Robb and the horror thriller The Seventh Day starring Guy Pearce.
Voltage represented worldwide rights on After, based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Anna Todd, debuted number one at the box office in 17 international territories including Germany and Italy when released in April 2019 and grossed over $70m worldwide. The highly anticipated sequel, After We Collided, recently opened number one in Italy, Portugal and Spain. The third and fourth films in the franchise are currently shooting in Eastern Europe.
Voltage also produced the blockbuster comedy I Feel Pretty starring Amy Schumer, Michelle Williams, Emily Ratajkowski, and Naomi Campbell, which generated nearly $100m in worldwide box office. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile starring Zac Efron, Lily Collins, Kaya Scodelario, Jim Parsons, and John Malkovich premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim.
