In memory of Bernd Eichinger, the Berlinale will show A Girl Called Rosemarie

In memory of the producer, writer and director Bernd Eichinger, the Berlinale will show Bernd Eichinger's film A Girl Called Rosemarie (1996), starring Nina Hoss, who is a member of this year's International Jury, in Kino International at 2.00 pm on Saturday, February 12, 2011.

A Girl Called Rosemarie tells the true story of the 1957 murder of ‘demimondaine' Rosemarie Nitribitt. The Nitribitt affair caused a great stir at the time, but remained unsolved. The film was one of the most controversial and successful films of the 1950s.

Before the screening, Dieter Kosslick and Nina Hoss will give a short introduction before giving the floor to the producer and executive board member responsible for film and television at Constantin Film AG, Martin Moszkowicz. He will hold a speech honouring Bernd Eichinger.

The Berlin International Film Festival will always remember Bernd Eichinger fondly. He was a much cherished guest of the festival: In 1997 his international co-production Smilla's Sense of Snow (directed by Bille August) opened the Berlinale; in 2006 he returned to the Competition with The Elementary Particles (directed by Oskar Roehler); and most recently, at the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2008, he took part in discussions with emerging film talents.
