Kimberly Peirce and Daniela Ruah honored at the 2019 Artemis Awards Gala

Kimberly Peirce staked her place as a writer and director of singular vision and craft with her unflinching debut feature BOYS DON'T CRY (Hilary Swank, Chloë Sevingy, Peter Sarsgaard), which earned numerous honors including the Best Actress Oscar and Golden Globe for Hilary Swank, and Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for co-star Chloë Sevigny. Since then, Peirce has gone on to win countless awards internationally. She subsequently co-wrote and directed STOP-LOSS (Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Abbie Cornish, Ryan Phillippe), a drama with true accounts about American soldiers (including her brother) who fought in Iraq. Other films Peirce directed include CARRIE (Julianne Moore) and upcoming production THIS IS JANE about an underground abortion ring.

Best known for her role of the tough special agent Kensi Blye on the long-running series NCIS: LA, US-born Ms. Ruah’s career actually began in Portugal when she was a teenager. She racked up over 700 episodes on several Portuguese television shows and presented the Eurovision Song Contest before her US debut on NCIS: LA. Although she enjoys the on-screen banter between herself and her NCIS: LA co-stars, her favorite aspect of her role in the show are the action scenes. She works alongside stunt coordinators to prepare for scenes, and is dedicated to training for stunts, while many times performing the actual fight scenes herself. Whether it’s riding motorbikes, hand to hand fighting, or dodging bullets in shootouts, Ms. Ruah is living her dream job.
