The 37th Annual 2009 Dance on Camera Festival (DCF), co-sponsored by the Dance Films Association (DFA) and Film Society of Lincoln Center Opening Night Premiere of BALLERINA, directed by Bertrand Normand was held at the Walter Reade Theater, New York, Wednesday, January 7, 6:00 PM. A special Q&A with director Normand, moderated by DFA festival co-producer, Joanna Ney, producer, Arts Programming, new directors/new films selection committee, Film Society of Lincoln Center, preceded the 2009 DCF Opening Night Reception. BALLERINA is an outstanding magnificent documentary film based on the life of five superb dancers (Alina Somova, Svetlana Zakharova, Diana Vishneva, Evgenia Obraztsova, Ulyana Lopatkina) and the history of Russian ballet dancers. This brilliant film captures each dancer's intensive training at the prestigious St. Petersburg Ballet Academy to premiering in the renowned Mariinsky Theater (Kirov).
