The International Animation Film Market Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary!

During the Mifa press conference this evening at the CNC, Director of Mifa Véronique Encrenaz outlined some highlights of the upcoming edition, which will be held from 10th to 13th June 2025.

 

Covering an area of over 10,000m², the Mifa will be offering editorialized days from this anniversary edition onwards. With 200 events programmed, 200 stands in the ever-larger Exhibition Area, an XR&Games area that returns to the heart of the Mifa and therefore closer to the professionals on the 1st floor of the Exhibition Area, and a restyled, revitalised Le Campus Mifa, the Mifa is celebrating its 40th anniversary in grand style!

The MIFA 2025 in figures:

  • Surface area of the Mifa: + 10,000m²

  • The Exhibition Area is 600m2 larger on the 1st floor

THE Mifa Animation Industry Award

The Mifa is delighted to present the award to an iconic producer, Didier Brunner, notably the producer of Kirikou, which was presented for the very first time by Michel Ocelot as a Pitch project during one of the early editions of the Mifa in 1993! The award will be presented during the Guest Cocktail Reception on 9th June 2025.

INDUSTRY CONTENT

Located at the Impérial Palace, the Industry Content will be offering a wide range of event formats to support all the industry's professionals.

On the programme:

32 Pitch sessions:

> 7 Mifa Pitch sessions, including a brand-new session dedicated to animated documentaries and there will be an awards ceremony accessible to all professionals.  

The number of project submissions for the Mifa Pitches – the highlight of the Market – continues to rise with a new record of 917 projects received from 92 countries. 48 projects were shortlisted in the following categories: Short Films (1 session – 11 projects), Feature Films (2 sessions – 12 projects), Series & TV Specials (2 sessions – 12 projects), Immersive Experiences (1 session – 7 projects) and Documentaries (1 session –6 projects), 24 of them directed by women and 25 are French productions or coproduced in France.

> 25 Partners Pitch Sessions

Over 120 projects in development from all continents will be presented across 25 Partners Pitch sessions, including those participants from the 2024-2025 International Mifa Campus: India, Madagascar, the Andean countries (Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru) and Mediterranean countries (Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Morocco, Egypt); plus Hungary, the country whose animation is in the spotlight in 2025, and many others from around the world: Kosovo, Italy, Black Sea countries (Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia), Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South-East Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar), South Korea, South Africa, Nigeria, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile.

This rising number of Partners Pitches confirms that the Mifa has become an essential crossroads for the global animation market and a key opportunity for many partner organisations, such as Women in Animation, Ibermedia Next, CEE Animation Forum, and La Liga de la Animación Iberoamericana, to showcase emerging talent on the international stage.

XR&GAMEs

The XR&Games Area returns to the heart of the Exhibition Area in the Impérial Palace on the 1st floor. It will host :

  • the Festival Official Selection competing VR Works
  • Persistant Studios - PopcornFX (France)
  • the Missing 10 hours Project by Fanni Fazakas and Veronika Noémi Szakonyi
  • meetings between IP owners, video game and animation studios for IP adaptation, organised by the CNC, Game Only and the SNJV (French national video game syndicate)
  • and XR events…

The Mifa is also launching the second edition of the Video Game Cinematic Works & Game Trailers Competition in collaboration with Weird Market – Paramotion Films in Spain, with screenings of the best works and trailers on Tuesday 10th June at 3:00 pm and the awards ceremony on Thursday 12th June at 06:15 pm. Entries from 21 countries, created by Ubisoft, Fortiche Production, Blizzard Entertainment, Titmouse, PASSION PICTURES, The Line, Psyop and numerous others, are currently being shortlisted.

This XR&Games content will expand throughout the week with special panel discussions and conferences, including a Studio Focus by Riot Games.

 

 

TALENT CONTENT

For the third year in its new location, Le Campus Mifa is offering an even more extensive programme over its 4 days. With 40 events devoted to students and young talent along with a new set up to offer new formats for meetings and exchanges with its audiences: breakfasts, workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions, live demonstrations and recruitment sessions. Áron Gauder, Hungarian Director and winner of the Jury Award at Annecy in 2023 for Four Souls of Coyote, will succeed Regina Pessoa as Patron of this year's event.

Several guests at Le Campus Mifa 2025:

Michel Gondry, Victor Haegelin (as part of "The Video Clip Geniuses" is being honoured at the Festival), David Silverman (The Simpsons), Aaron Blaise (Brother Bear), Chris Butler (ParaNorman), and Imogen Sutton (Prologue and The Animator's Survival Kit).

 

On the programme:

  • Tuesday 10th June – the brand-new Student Pitch: 8 graduation film projects from international animation schools selected for this new springboard event.  
  • Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th June – recruitment. Many companies return to Le Campus Mifa confirming that the Mifa is indispensable for discovering new talent. With 6 Recruiters Talk sessions and 22 Recruitment sessions already confirmed, there will be nearly 25 studios present to offer new career opportunities, among them are Walt Disney Animation Studios, DNEG Animation, Netflix Animation Studios, ILM/Lucasfilm, Illumination Studio Paris, LAIKA, Ravensburger, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, Sony Pictures Animation, Gaumont Animation, ZEILT productions, Watch Next Media... 
  • Thursday 12th and Friday 13th June: new workshops organised by SideFX and TVPaint instructors.  
  • Friday 13th June: the traditional music day in partnership with the SACEM.
