Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

In conversation with Vickie Krieps at the American Pavilion in Cannes

Great actress Vicky Krieps is back to the Festival de Cannes after a break of three years. In 2022 she had leading roles in two films presented in Cannes "Corsage" and "More Than Ever," and in 2021 with "Bergman Island" and "Forever and Ever"), yet the actress shows no signs of "fatigue" when she is on stage at the American Pavillon giving smart answers. The AmPav is a refuge, creating intimacy and room for privacy, yes indeed it feels surprisingly private to start a conversation in such a space. The Luxembourgish-German actress is looking forward to watching films and connecting with the "cinema family" while in the evening, she will attend the premiere of the film "Love Me Tender" by director Anna Cazenave Cambet.

The new film of the 35 xears old French director is part of the "Un Certain Regard" competition. Krieps plays here Clémence, a lawyer who separates from her husband Laurent – partly because she has romantic relationships with women. While Laurent fights for sole custody of their son Paul, Clémence struggles to maintain her connection with him while also preserving her own freedom.

Krieps spoke at the AmPav about the emotions of her character and what appealed to her exciting and challenging in this queer drama and why she believes the best encounters can't be planned or longed for.
