Sirât continues its international run, winning five EFAs

The 38th edition of the European Film Awards took place on Saturday night at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, celebrating the best of European cinema and showcasing a strong selection of socially and politically engaged films.

The evening’s big winner was the Norwegian film Sentimental Value, directed by Joachim Trier, which claimed six awards, including the top honours of European Film, Director, Screenwriter, Actor (Stellan Skarsgård), Actress (Renate Reinsve), and Original Score.

Spanish cinema also enjoyed a notable presence thanks to Sirat, directed by Oliver Laxe, which emerged as one of the most awarded films of the night in the technical categories. Although it did not win in the four main film awards, Sirat received five major technical prizes, confirming its strong impact within the European industry.

Awards won by Sirat

The Spanish production was recognised for excellence in key technical areas:

  • European Casting Director — Nadia Acimi, Luís Bértolo and María Rodrigo (Sirat)
  • European Cinematography — Mauro Herce (Sirat)
  • European Editing — Cristóbal Fernández (Sirat)
  • European Production Design — Laia Ateca (Sirat)
  • European Sound Design — Laia Casanovas, Amanda Villavieja and Yasmina Praderas (Sirat)

These awards highlight the film’s outstanding technical and artistic achievement and consolidate Sirat as one of the most recognised Spanish productions at this year’s European Film Awards.

Other highlights of the ceremony

Among the other winners of the night were:

  • European Documentary: Fiume o morte! (dir. Igor Bezinović)
  • European Animated Feature Film: ARCO

The ceremony also paid tribute to legendary actress and filmmaker Liv Ullmann, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to European cinema.
