London's independent TV broadcaster Carlton has filled two key positions in its newly created film unit with the appointment of William Turner as production executive, and Tracey Jack as development executive.
The establishment of the new team follows ITV's recently announced film initiative, as part of which Carlton will be producing an average of two films a year.
"We intend to develop our own productions and to work with partners," says Carlton's director of drama and co-production Jonathan Powell. "To move forward with the ITV film project, our focus will be on quality, mainstream feature films. Initially, we will typically be working with budgets of between 2m and 5m. The films will be intended for theatrical release before their ITV exclusive network premieres."
Turner has advised feature-film producers on both development and production financing and is also a member of the Middleton Film Finance Committee set up by the Department of National Heritage.
Jack was formerly UK head of development at Dogstar Films, the company set up by Four Weddings and a Funeral director Mike Newell and Alan Greenspan. Most recently, she has been co-developing Newell's I Capture the Castle with BBC Films. Both will report to Powell. Garry Bisson
