"Inglorious Basterds" Press Conference
Having taken eight years to write, yet only eight months to edit, Quintin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds has finally hit Cannes with a very big bang. After the screening of the most anticipated movie of the festival, press and photographers frantically dashed out doors and up the stairs to wait in line for the arrival of the cast including Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Melanie Laurent, Til Schweiger, Eii Roth, and the notorious "Bastereds" director himself. Tarantino began by explaining the importance of incorporating truth behind this film. He wanted to make the story line as real as possible, for example by casting all the German roles with true Germans. "I wanted to stay true to dialects." He also went on to discuss the style behind the movie and how his objective was to try and converge the iconograhpy of WWII with old western style. Brad Pitt, who was the only American on board, admitted his love for working with the international cast. When asked what made him decide to do the movie, he responded by saying that he was in from the start once seeing the cover for the film and knowing Tarantino was behind it.
