82nd Academy Awards announced Scientific and Technical Recipients

The 82nd Academy Awards (2010 Oscar Ceremony) presented by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (A.M.P.A.S.) for outstanding film achievements of 2009 nominees will be announced in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Beverly Hills, CA, on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, 5:30 AM (PST). The 2010 Oscars co-hosted by Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will commence on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Kodak Theatre, Hollywood, CA, and televised live by the ABC Television Network in the U.S., and in more than 200 countries worldwide.

This year's Academy Awards for Scientific and Technical achievements commence on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at The Beverly Wilshire, Beverly Hills, CA. 2010 Oscar recipients honored for Scientific and Technical Achievements are:

Scientific Achievement

* Per Christensen and Michael Bunnell - development of point-based rendering indirect illumination and ambient occlusion.

* Dr. Richard Kirk - design/development of Truelight real-time 3D look-up table hardware device and color management software.

* Volker Massmann, Markus Hasenzahl, Dr. Klaus Anderle and Andreas Loew - development of Spirit 4K/2K film scanning system, digital intermediate process for motion pictures.

* Michael Cieslinski, Dr. Reimar Lenz and Bernd Brauner - development of ARRISCAN film scanner, digital intermediate process.

* Wolfgang Lempp, Theo Brown, Tony Sedivy and Dr. John Quartel - development of Northlight film scanner, digital intermediate process.

* Steve Chapman, Martin Tlaskal, Darrin Smart and James Logie - contributions to development of Baselight color correction system.

* Mark Jaszberenyi, Gyula Priskin and Tamas Perlaki - contributions to development of Lustre color correction system.

* Brad Walker, D. Scott Dewald, Bill Werner and Greg Pettitt - contributions to design/refinement of Texas Instruments DLP Projector.

* Ryoji Nishimura, Masaaki Miki and Youichi Hosoya (FUJI Film Corporation) - design/development of Fuji color ETERNA-RDI digital intermediate film.

* Paul Debevec, Tim Hawkins, John Monos and Mark Sagar - design/engineering of Light Stage capture devices and image-based facial rendering system for character relighting in motion pictures.

Technical Achievement

* Mark Wolforth and Tony Sedivy - development of Truelight real-time 3D look-up table hardware system.

* Dr. Klaus Anderle, Christian Baeker and Frank Billasch - contributions to LUTher 3D look-up table hardware device and color management software.

* Steve Sullivan, Kevin Wooley, Brett Allen and Colin Davidson - development of the Imocap on-set performance capture system.

* Hayden Landis, Ken McGaugh and Hilmar Koch - advance technique of ambient occlusion rendering.

* Bjorn Heden - design/engineering of silent two-stage planetary friction drive Heden Lens Motors.
