TIFF 14 Industry Programme
The Toronto International Film Festival® announced additional experts and bold new partnerships to join the TIFF
Industry programme today. The stellar lineup at the Glenn Gould Studio and Vimeo Industry Convergence Centre (250 Front Street
West), home of the Festival Industry Conference, promises to impress and inspire delegates with an unrivalled experience for film
industry professionals. Additional Conference speakers at the Glenn Gould Studio include Barry Levinson (Good Morning Vietnam, The
Humbling), Oren Moverman (The Messenger, Rampart, Time out of Mind), Pierre-Ange Le Pogam (The Three Burials of Melquiades
Estrada, Grace of Monaco), Terry Press (CBS Films), Jade Raymond (Ubisoft) and Col Needham (IMDB).
The Vimeo Industry Convergence Centre is an exciting addition to the Industry Conference venues, enabling the expansion of
conference programming, relationship-building opportunities, cultural exchange and talent accelerator programmes which include
Vimeo’s exclusive Filmmaker’s Guide to the (Distribution) Galaxy sessions.
A continuing partnership, Indiewire @ the Festival returns with a stellar line-up of guest speakers, including Steve Carell, Channing
Tatum, Mark Ruffalo and Bennett Miller of Foxcatcher; Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons, and Damien Chazelle of Whiplash; Brit Marling and
Hailee Steinfeld of The Keeping Room; Andrew Niccol and Ethan Hawke of Good Kill; and Jake Gyllenhaal of Nightcrawler.
New this year, a series of Industry Networking Sessions and Workshops (SPIN Sessions) will connect Canadian filmmakers with
international delegations attending the Festival to gain knowledge and wisdom of film industry experts about topical issues. Confirmed
guest speakers include independent film icon Ted Hope, Niv Fichman (Blindness, Enemy), Damon D’Oliveira (Book of Negroes),
Christina Piovesan (Life, Regression) and Steven Markovitz (Beats of the Antonov).

Master Class with Barry Levinson

This TIFF Industry Conference Master Class is co-presented with Pinewood Studios Group and Directors Guild of Canada and
moderated by Pete Hammond of Deadline. Academy Award®-winning writer, director and producer Barry Levinson (Good Morning
Vietnam, The Humbling) reflects on a fantastical career and shares a bounty of wisdom and experience on many beloved films and
little-known facts about his extensive filmography.
State of the Industry
Catalina Briceno (Canada Media Fund) presents the State of Digital Media, joining fellow industry experts in discussions on film
financing, co-production, distribution, marketing, and the future of cinema. John Hadity (Entertainment Partners Financial Solutions) will
moderate State Of Financing and film critic Elvis Mitchell will moderate State of Marketing.

Canada Meets South Africa
Experienced Canadian and South African producers discuss tax and co-production incentives available in both countries and
perspectives on working outside their respective home countries. Speakers include:

Accessing International Funding and Tax Incentives

breaks down funding opportunities for international producers in Europe, the UK and other territories. Speakers include:

Role of the Creative Producer
This session for select Canadian filmmakers and producers in the official delegation from the Korean Film Council is an exclusive
opportunity to learn from one of the most forward-thinking and progressive producers in the business. Iconic film producer Ted Hope
focuses on the various roles of producers in today's independent film world and the need for adaptability.

Open to select Canadian filmmakers and to producers and filmmakers in the official delegation from Cinema do Brasil, this session
provides an overview of the demands and opportunities of international co-productions for today's independent productions, ending
with the signing of an official memorandum between the Ontario Media Development Corporation and the Rio Film Commission. Guest
speakers include:

Vimeo Short Cuts Channel
Also included in the Festival’s exciting new partnership with Vimeo, select Short Cuts Canada and Short Cuts International films will be
screened on a custom Vimeo channel 24 hours after its in-cinema premiere, extending Festival short film audiences to the passionate
Vimeo community of over 170 million viewers.
Producers Lab Toronto
Ten producers each from Europe and Canada and four participants coming from Australia and New Zealand will meet at the Vimeo
Industry Convergence Centre to exchange ideas and information on funding and co-production on both sides of the Atlantic and Down
Under in the fifth edition of Producers Lab Toronto.
Asian Film Summit
This year’s Asian Film Summit Master Class will provide participants with the opportunity to get up close and personal with renowned
Chinese director Ning Hao (Breakup Buddies). Ning Hao will discuss his career in film and his perception of the growth of the Chinese
industry and Chinese filmmakers in particular in a moderated conversation.
Talent Lab and TIFF Rising Stars
Talent Lab, TIFF Industry’s intensive workshop programme for emerging filmmakers, has added Juliette Binoche (Clouds of Sils Maria)
and Lone Sherfig (The Riot Club) to its slate of speakers. This year’s TIFF Rising Stars will receive mentoring from renowned directors
including Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar, The Good Lie), Ruba Nadda (Cairo Time, October Gale), Debbie Tucker Green
(Second Coming), and Oren Moverman (The Messenger, Rampart, Time out of Mind). In addition, the Stars will receive professional
training from some of the leading casting directors in North America, made possible through a new partnership with the Casting Society
of America. Confirmed speakers include Monika Mikkelsen (Paramount Pictures), Paul Schnee and Kerry Barden (Barden/Schnee
Casting), Matthew Lessall (Lessall Casting), Terri Taylor (Blumhouse Productions), Heidi Levitt (Heidi Levitt Casting) and Sharon Bialy
(Bialy Thomas & Associate).

Creating Resonance: Stories and Realities of Diversity in the Film Industry
Karen Lunder of FilmNation joins the panel of industry experts in this discussion on gender representation and diversity in the film
industry.
Pitching a Tentpole
Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, (Grace of Monaco) and Nik Bower (Ingenious) join this panel of film executives discussing how investors and
financiers make their decisions on what to fund and how to fund it.Spotlight: South Korea
Eun Lee has just been added the panel discussion about South Korea’s global positioning as a gateway to co-production with Asia, and
critical acclaim in both the international festival circuit and in exportable markets, which will be moderated by Anita Lee (National Film
Board of Canada).
Beyond the Screen: Futures Made Of Virtual Reality
Jade Raymond (Ubisoft), Ariel Garten (Interaxon) and James Stewart (Geneva Films) are new additions to this examination of the
possibilities and realities of virtual reality, and the technology’s transportability across content genres.
What’s Up With All These Multimedia Corporations Investing In Content?!?!
Col Needham (IMDB) and Duncan Stewart (Deloitte) join this exploration of the strategic partnerships between content, technology,
entertainment, and investment, how and why these worlds collide, the impact of greater investment from multimedia companies on
content, the role of ad sales strategy, and the influence of data points collected through advertising on future content partnerships.
Ad Infinitum: High Frame Rate Projection
Scott Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter will moderate this presentation of visionary effects artist Douglas Trumbull and leading
cinema projector manufacturer Christie®’s groundbreaking film project UFOTOG.

Claudia Triana (Proimagenes Colombia) and Bimal Julka (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India) will present their 15-minute
