James Ransone brings TANGERINE to Sundance, a film by Sean Baker

A Film by Sean Baker

In TANGERINE, James Ransone plays Chester, a pimp who may or may not have cuckolded his girlfriend, working girl Sin-Dee (Kiki Kitana Rodriguez). Ransone's performance is punctuated by a deft comic timing and is so incredibly believable -- you would think that Sean Baker discovered him in off the streets in a casting all if, you know, he didn't have quite the impressive roster of acting credits.

Ransone has graced the small screen with featured roles in HBO's "The Wire" (as Chester 'Ziggy' Sobotka), "Treme," and in "Generation Kill." He was also in the cast of AMC's "Low Winter Sun," alongside Mark Strong. Film-wise, he starred in Larry Clark's KEN PARK, John Waters' A DIRTY SHAME, Spike Lee's RED HOOK SUMMER, and SINISTER, to name a few. On the pipeline are SINISTER 2, Ti West's IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE, and MR. RIGHT, alongside Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell.

TANGERINE marks his second collaboration with Sean Baker, as he starred in STARLET as Mikey, another man living in the fringes of Los Angeles.

TANGERINE SYNOPSIS
It's Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee (newcomer Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend (James Ransone, STARLET, "Generation Kill") hasn't been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the working girl and her best friend, Alexandra (newcomer Mya Taylor), embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity.

Director Sean Baker’s prior films (STARLET, PRINCE OF BROADWAY) brought rich texture and intimate detail to worlds seldom seen on film. TANGERINE follows suit, bursting off the screen with energy and style. Exhibiting fierce chemistry with his actors to fashion a dazzlingly distinctive film filled with humor and heart, Baker’s talent is on full display. A decidedly modern Christmas tale told on the streets of L.A., TANGERINE defies expectation -- a veritable cinematic jolt.
