Doc Club Shines the Spotlight on Women Directors in January

Women directors tend to get more opportunity in documentary than Hollywood. It's hard to explain why, but we can certainly celebrate their results. This January IFC's SundanceNOW Doc Club, a virtual destination for streaming independent films online, focuses the spotlight on women directors. Eight diverse films from eight brilliant women highlight the immense talent that exists in the field.

Some of the films and directors featured in "Spotlight on Women Directors" include:

  • Robin Hessman looks at the generation of Russians who came of age at a pivotal time in MY PERESTROIKA.
  • Kate Davis profiles a southern couple who defy expectations in SOUTHERN COMFORT.
  • Laura Poitras (in the news for breaking the story of Edward Snowden) teams with Linda Goode Bryant focusing on gentrification and racial tensions in Ohio in FLAG WARS.
  • Alexandra Condina portrays a marriage with unique challenges in MONICA & DAVID that won for "Best Documentary" at the Tribeca Film Festival.
  • Chiara Clemente highlights the lives of four women artists in OUR CITY DREAMS.
  • Tracy Droz Tragos searches for the father she never knew in BE GOOD, SMILE PRETTY.
