                                                                Italian 'Moviemove'  Film Festival

The Italian 'Moviemov' Film Festival, possibly the best film festival in Bangkok, is back in July, with an  exciting range of new films, Retrospective of  a great Director, and last but not the least,  a package of new-age Thai films.

The Festival will be held from   24 JULY- 28 JULY, at SF Cinema, Central World

Most impressive,is the presence ,on the Opening Night, of  top Italian contemporary director, Paulo Sorrentino, who will present his new film 'The Great Beauty', which created waves at this year's Cannes Festival.

Italian Ambassador HE Michelangelo Pipan stated  that Sorrentino's presence had definitely raised the level of this year's Festival. Incidentally, the famed Director's movie 'The Consequence of Love'  had won an award at the Bangkok International Film Festival in 2004.

Also in attendance at the Festival, will be Oscar-winning director Guiseppe Tornatore, who will present his English-language movie 'The Best Offer' with a top British cast of Geoffrey Rush, Donald Sutherland, Jum Sturgess.

Other movies include 'Cha Cha Cha', a crime drama by Marco Risi, 'Nina', a surreal, near-fantasy tale by Elisa Fuksas, 'I travel alone' about an individualistic single woman by Maria Sole Tognazzi,  'A Special Day' ,about a young, ambitious duo by Francesca Comencini, , 'Every Blessed Day' about a happy-go-lucky young couple by Paolo Virzi,   'Balancing Act', about a separated, older couple by Ivano De Matteo  - vibrant, new dramas by noteworthy directors, that have created waves at festivals around the world.

The Retrospective is of dynamic director Ettore Scola , who in the 60's and 70's, was considered one of the great maestros of Italian cinema, and several of whose movies had won Oscar nominations. Seven of his movies will be screened in Bangkok ,including his best-known ones like 'We all loved each other so much' , 'A Special Day'(with Sophia Loren , Marcello Mastroianni ),Maccheroni ( with Jack Lemmon ), and others.

One of the interesting features of the Italian Festival, is the 'connection' it makes with Thai films, and this time, it will feature  three  much-talked-about Thai  ghost-tales - 'Alone, Body, Phobia 2 '.  Their talented directors Banjong Pisanthanakun and Paween Pisanthanakun will also travel to Rome, to screen their films there. The young film-makers said they were very excited  by this interaction with Italy and  Italian cinema.

Well-known Thai director Ekachai Uekrongtham ,who had been an honoured guest of the Rome International Film Festival, said he was a great fan of Italian cinema . As also  Thai-British model-actress Sonia Couling . Both of them are currently working on projects in LA, but made sure they were in town, to attend the press conference of the  Italian 'Moviemov' film festival.

The Festival , now in its third year, has been put together by Senator Goffredo Bettini, who said that he was very happy by the excellent response to the festival in Bangkok. One of the noteworthy aspects of the Festival, was its target audience of school-students, especially for the Retrospective-movies, and he hoped the youngsters would flock to the films this year too.

As with the earlier ‘Moviemov’ film festivals, there would also be a fashion-segment ,which this year, would feature the latest creations of Giorgio Armani in the film-sector, in particular the costumes of the Opening Film ‘The Great Beauty’ by  Paolo Sorrentino.

From Bangkok, the Festival would travel to Manila, and  also to Yangon, for the first time !

The Italian Film Festival, is part of the mega Italian Festival, which will stretch to the end of the year, and include a mega range of activities from music and  dance to  art, design and even space technology.
