Will Ferrel Guest Star at the Viennale 2013

The Viennale is pleased to announce another highlight of this year’s program. The festival, taking place from October 24 to November 6, is devoting a comprehensive film tribute to the great American actor and comedian Will Ferrell.

Chosen in collaboration with Will Ferrell, the selection of films includes some of his absolute classics, such as STEP BROTHERS (2008), TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY (2006) and OLD SCHOOL (2002), but also less known works like CASA DE MI PADRE (2012), YOU'RE WELCOME AMERICA. A FINAL NIGHT WITH GEORGE W. BUSH (2009). In addition, we’ll present a series of his best shorts and TV sketches under the title SAFETY LAST!

The Viennale is the first international film festival to dedicate a long-overdue tribute to the exceptional artist, and we’re happy to welcome Will Ferrell as our guest in Vienna on this occasion. On Wednesday, November 6, at 5pm, a gala screening of the film ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY will be held at Vienna’s Gartenbaukino in the presence of Will Ferrell, followed by an extensive podium discussion.

“With the Will Ferrell tribute the Viennale pays homage to one of the most original and intelligent comedians of contemporary cinema. That’s why we’re all the more pleased to welcome Will Ferrell personally to this year’s festival,” says Viennale director Hans Hurch.

Will Ferrell: “I haven’t been to Vienna or to Austria before. It’s also the first time that a film festival has dedicated a tribute to me. That’s very flattering and I’m curious how people in Austria will react.”
