At a public event this morning for parents and educators, the Chicago International Children's Film Festival released its full 2014 schedule, featuring over 290 films from over 39 countries selected from over 3000 entries, workshops, special tributes, and more.

From October 24 through November 2, 2014, Facets' Chicago International Children's Film Festival returns to celebrate its 31tst anniversary of presenting the best in child and youth cinema from around the world. This year's screening venues include Facets (1517 W. Fullerton), the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport), Alliance Francais (810 N. Dearborn), and the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts (915 E. 60th St.).
In addition to the films themselves, the CICFF enhances the film going experience with post screening Q&As with filmmakers, interactive workshops with special guests, peer-to-peer dialogues, filmmaker-led seminars, and the CICFF Children's and Youth Juries, encouraging kids and their families to connect with film and the festival in a variety of ways.
In addition, for each school and group field trip screening, the CICFF includes a comprehensive curriculum and expert staff led media education to encourage students to explore world cultures, language studies, creative arts, social studies, history, and literature -helping make media an enriching and participatory experience for Chicago-area kids.
Highlights of this year's festival include:
A Tribute to Academy Animation featuring winners of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award for Best Animated Short that spans the whole of the 20th century. The program includes classics of the cartoon era like Mickey Mouse and Woody Woodpecker alongside newer players in the world of animation like Pixar Studios and Aardman Animation. A featured speaker from the Academy will be on hand to present the films and answer questions from the audience. Music Box Theatre, November 1, at 11AM.
The workshop Stop-Motion Magic with LAIKA Studios that includes a special screening of their new film The Boxtrolls. LIAKA's own Mark Shapiro will lead workshop attendees through the world of stop-motion animation with an intimate look inside the studio that produced the Oscar nominated features Coraline and ParaNorman. Music Box Theatre, October 18. The Boxtrolls screens at 10AM with the workshop following at 12:30PM.
The fourth annual Halloween-themed movie program "Flick or Treat" -sponsored by GEMS World Academy - Chicago, features programs for all ages including four Halloween themed shorts programs and features, costume contests, and ends just in time for the Trick or Treat on Southpor, just outside the doors of the Music Box Theatre. The fourth annual Tribute to French Film that includes three new programs screened throughout the Festival at both the Music Box Theatre and Alliance Francaise. The programs are sponsard by Institute Francais. See the full schedule for programs, screen times, and venues.
Family Passes are available for $40, admitting up to 4 adults or children to all general Festival screenings. Individual tickets to the general public weekend and evening screenings are on sale now. The general public will also be able to purchase tickets to weekday school screenings (subject to availability) beginning October 15th. Prices range from $9 for adults to $6 for children (2-18). Admission is free for Facets members. The opening reception and awards reception are extra.
