The International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao (IFFAM) is delighted to announce the addition of the World Premiere of Fruit Chan’s SHINING MOMENT to the inaugural programme.

After being sidelined by his gymnastics team, Yu (Hins Cheung) quits and reinvents himself as a Latin dance instructor. He assembles a group of children to compete in a Latin dance competition. Can Yu, still facing his own insecurities, teach them to truly dance? Can Yu bring out the best in these children and let them shine on stage?

Born in Guangdong, China, Fruit Chan is a Hong Kong film director and scriptwriter. His film Made in Hong Kong (97) received numerous awards at local and international film festivals. Selected filmography: Finale in Blood (93), The Longest Summer (98), Durian Durian (00), Little Cheung (00), Public Toilet (02), Hollywood Hong Kong (03), Three Extremes: Dumplings (04), The Midnight After (14), Kill Time (15), Shining Moment (16).

SHINING MOMENT will join the 11 other previously announced titles in Official Competition. The IFFAM jury, presided over by acclaimed director Shekhar Kapur, will announce the winners at a prestigious ceremony on Tuesday 13 December.

The International Film Festival & Awards‧Macao (IFFAM) opens on Thursday 8 December with the Asian premiere of POLINA (Polina, danser sa vie), a film by Valérie Müller and Angelin Preljocaj featuring Anastasia Shevtsova, Niels Schneider and Juliette Binoche.

As previously announced, in addition to films in competition, the festival’s screening programme will encompass the following strands:

·         Gala: A selection of 3 of the most important works from the latter half of the year

·         Hidden Dragons:  9 films representing the latest trends in contemporary Asian genre cinema

·         Best of Fest Panorama: 9 award-winning feature films from major international festivals

·         Crossfire: 12 non-East Asian, non-US genre films selected by a dozen major East Asian film directors

·         Actress in Focus: 3 films featuring Actress Gwei Lun Mei
