This year’s Stockholm International Film Festival will be dedicated to Lauren Bacall, one of our times greatest stars, who was also the recipient of The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000.  

Lauren Bacall was one of Hollywood’s greatest stars, known for her acting, her deep voice and her gaze. Her film debut in the 1944 “To Have and Have Not” made her famous and she quickly became a legend a term she resisted saying that was a reference to the past and she was more interested in the present and future.

Lauren Bacall received The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 2000 and visited the festival to receive her prize. At the press conference she gave an unforgettable answer on how to become a star:

“If you want to be an actor, learn how to act then maybe you can be a star. If you want to be a star, that’s your aim, then you will never be an actor. And you may also never be a star.”
