Revelation Perth International Film Festival has announced its expanded 2016 program.
Curated once again by Jack Sargeant, the Revelation Perth International Film Festival sees a diverse selection of films drawn from across the world.
Boasting Revelation's commitment to signature works, independent cinema, genre film, world cinema, and unique breathtaking movies, this year is no exception with a program drawn from Australia, Iceland, Canada, France, Paraguay, Ukraine, Japan and all points in between.
Featuring award-winning movies, world, international and local premieres, new Australian works and live performances, Revelation is a celebration of the strength of all aspects of film culture.
Festival Director Richard Sowada said the 2016 program has surprises at every turn.
“Through the expanded range of films, events and exhibitions we’ve tried our best to explore as many corners of the world as we can,” said Richard.
“I think the event is our best ever showcase of the transformative power of the big screen and in so doing brings to WA new cinematic ideas and vital and energetic new perspectives.
“It’s impressive and is filled with depth, texture, strength and challenge.”
Expanding across the city and wider community, Revelation plays a central role not just in the Perth calendar but also nationally and internationally.
Featuring dedicated programs from the Iranian Film Festival, Cine Vivo Latina Film Festival, the Revel-8 Super-8 short film festival and ScreenWest, once again Revelation will entertain and inspire audiences, while RevCon will feature some of the festival's guests exploring key aspects of the industry at dedicated panels and workshops.
Revelation Academic meanwhile sees scholars - from academic institutions and independent researchers - delivering papers and exploring cinema and visual culture, in the fifth instalment of this critical platform that remains utterly unique to any Australian film festival.
2016 sees the biggest Revelation program to date with Program Director Jack Sargeant calling it a mammoth task.
“It truly encompasses everything from children's movies to video art, poignant dramas to gore horror movies, contemplative documentaries and laugh out loud films. There's a sense, from looking over the programme, of the true potential for cinema, an ability to communicate to audiences, to engage viewers and to inspire something in all. I hope people find something special in the event.”
Revelation is acclaimed as Western Australia’s leading international film festival and annual screen culture event and is firmly established as Australia’s filmmakers’ festival. It is dedicated to presenting independent cinema from around the globe in a context that explores film’s great traditions, its contemporary movements and its future directions.
