Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Powerful and touching program of the 16th Sacramento French Film Festival.

The 2017 SFFF comes to you with an open-heart, figuratively and sometimes literally...

Please find attached our press release with complete info on our 2016 edition.
You can also visit our website for more info:

Our 2017 lineup includes 19 films with a mix of genres and themes that compose a balanced program of dramas and comedies, and where women have prominent roles. Actress Jessica Chastain, a member of the jury at the latest Cannes Film Festival, said she found the female representation in Cannes' films "disturbing." If she attended the SFFF, in her hometown, she would certainly praise our films and their strong female leads, embodied by some of France's biggest stars: Audrey Tautou (The Odyssey), Isabelle Huppert (Things To Come), Catherine Deneuve (The Midwife), Marion Cotillard (From the Land of the Moon), Juliette Binoche (Slack Bay), Danielle Darrieux (The Earrings of Madame de...), to name a few. And it is not just French actresses enjoying plum roles in French films. The Danish actress Sidse Babett Knudsen (150 Milligrams) and Hollywood icon Kristen Stewart (Personal Shopper) also give stellar performances in our 2017 program. At the SFFF, women don't need to wear super hero outfits to be Wonder Women!

The 16th SFFF will start with a bang on Friday, June 16, with one of the most talked about and controversial French films of the year, Lucas Belvaux's gripping political drama This Is Our Land, which examines the dangerous appeal of France's far-right party (the "Front National"). Don't miss it!

On Sunday, June 18, we are back at the Esquire IMAX Theatre for a full day of spectacular entertainment!
The four films we will show there will look and sound fantastic: from a 100 mile per hour action-packed comedy (Full Speed), to a breathtaking Jacques-Yves Cousteau biopic (The Odyssey); from a thrilling Erin Brockovich style drama (150 Milligrams), to a luminous romance starring Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard (From the Land of the Moon).

On the second weekend, actor Nathan Willcocks will be in Sacramento to present the post punk drama A Taste of Ink, a first feature by Morgan Simon.

And these are only some of the highlights of our 2017 program. There are many gems to discover!
