Oska Bright Film Fest - Championing learning disabilities in cinema touring the UKOska Bright Film Festival' Best of the Fest screening, centering people with learning disabilities in front and behind the screen, is touring the UK. While we're based in Brighton and are touring cities around the UK, I'm specifically located in Glasgow, but can also pass on any other regional information should you wish. I'm reaching out as I wondered if this was something you thought your networks might find value in joining to watch some brilliant short films in an autism-friendly cinema environment, and if you wouldn't mind sharing it with them so we can spread the word.
Oska Bright is the world’s largest film festival showcasing films made by, or featuring, people with autism and learning disabilities, and now in its 11th festival year. The full festival is based in Brighton, but our Best of the Fest screening programmes some of the year’s favorite short films and is coming to Glasgow as a part of GFT's Access Film Club, aiming to create inclusive cinema experiences that are relaxed and accessible. I'm really keen to bring these brilliant shorts to wider audiences across the UK to help advocate for better representation in film of the lives and art of people with learning disabilities, as the current UK film industry employment rates of people with disabilities sits at a woeful 5%.
It’s a brilliant programme in a relaxed and considered screening environment, and if you or your networks have any questions about accessibility at the GFT, programme details, or anything else Oska Bright or GFT are doing to support inclusion at the cinema, please drop me a line and I’ll be very happy to answer any questions. GFT also has a newsletter for the Access Film Club too which is monthly screenings and you get keep up to date here. What: Oska Bright Film Festival: Best of the Fest When: Monday March 11th 6pm - 7:30pm Where: Glasgow Film Theatre Cost: £6.50 - Buy tickets here
