Legend of Polish cinema Krzysztof Zanussi arrives at the Black Nights

One of the best-known Polish film directors Krzysztof Zanussi arrives in Tallinn today. Zanussi acclaimed international fame with his first full-length features “Struktura krysztalu” (1969) and “Family Life” (1971). Tonight he will present his latest “The Foreign Body” (2014) at a red carpet special screening at the Black Nights Film festival. “The Foreign Body” premiered at this year’s Toronto film festival.

Zanussi has directed more than 40 full-length feature films.
“Zanussi and his films are foremost intellectual and take a look at a persons inner world. They are the corner stone of Polish cinema that attract the audience and represent Poland at big international film festivals,” explains Tiina Lokk, director of the Black Nights.

Next to feature films Zanussi has also directed many documentaries and is known as a director in the theatres of Poland, Italy, Germany, France and Russia. “Zanussi has written most scripts of his films and many have been published as books,” adds Lokk.

Zanussi is professor at European Film School in Switzerland and University of Silesia in Katowice. He is the owner of film studio Tor that has produced all films by Krzysztof Kieślowski since 1976.

Black Nights Film Festival is the 15th international film festival to be inducted to that category by FIAPF. The most influential film festival of the European North Eastern region takes place from 14th to 30th November.
