Latin American program at 18th Malaga Film FestivalBy Leopoldo Soto
Málaga´s filmfest (April 17-26, 2015), directed by José Antonio Vigar, stands out as the most important festival in Spain during the first half of the year. Focused on promoting the most outstanding Spanish productions at the beginning of the year; but also programs from the Latin American production.
Argentina presents two works: The gurí "by Sergio Mazza, in which Federico Luppi plays Felipe, a bar owner who witnesses the passing of people felt after the death of his wife; Gonzalo knows, an abandoned child who defies both fiction and as acting. The movie previously screened in the 65th Berlinale; "Generation + 14"; another production is "Fire", a crisis of newlyweds; directed by John Schnitman.
Mexican presence; Bernardo Arellano´s "El inicio del tiempo” (El The Beginning of Time); tells the story of an elderly couple round the nineties. His problems started when they retire pensions due to social and financial crisis in the country. Ernesto Contreras, with "The dark springs"; Couple conflict; Gael García also participates as creative director of "El aula vacía “(The empty classroom) which includes eleven directors: Flavia Castro, Mariana Chenillo, Paul Fendrik, Carlos Gaviria, Tatiana Huezo, Lucrecia Martel, Nicolás Pereda, Eryk Rocha, Pablo Stoll, Daniel and Diego Vega) who portray the impact of dropouts in Latin America through a wonderfully diverse and complex feature. Travel to seven countries and explores the reasons why nearly half of high school students never finish their studies.
