FEELMAKERS expands its LGBT programming with the Happy Pride SpecialOn the occasion of the upcoming Gay Pride Day celebrations, the international VOD web portal FEELMAKERS (www.feelmakers.com) is expanding its LGBT-themed programming with the Happy Pride Special, which may be viewed from today through July 15 throughout almost the entire world.
Right now you can also view the three Feel Specials featuring films that have been selected as mentioned previously by the FEELMAKERS team in collaboration with those in charge of the LesGayCineMad Festival, the most important Spanish-speaking LGBT-themed film festival.
Some of the most notable films being featured in the Happy Pride Special include such thought-provoking films as: the Dutch I Love Hooligans (Jan Dirk Bouw, 2013), a story about the unconditional love a football supporter has for his team and how he must hide his gay life in order to stay part of this group-; the fiction film from Taiwan Between Us (Pingwen Wang, 2014), a story of the passion between a married woman and her lover, a film that participated in the Official Short Film Selection at the Festival of Palm Springs; and the documentary film from Colombia Nat Alie (María Camila Lozano, 2014) which portrays the dialogue between the art student Alie and her body through her work, in which it is not defined as to whether it is a man’s or a woman’s, but rather creates a grey area between the two genders.
This won a Special Mention for Sexual Diversity at the 1st Woman's Film Festival María Lionza (Colombia) and competed in the Official Section of the University Short Film Festival at the Universidad Autónoma of Mexico (UAEMEX) 2015.
In addition, as part of the Gay Feel Special, you’ll find such films as the Argentinian The Same Love, The Same Rights (Rodrigo Vila, Luciano Origlio, 2012), which deals with Argentina’s 2011 approval of the Law of Equal Marriage; the Spanish Gay Art Seeking A Home (Ione Hernández, 2012), which includes participation from such artists as David Trullo, Carlos Escolástico, Rafa García Tejero, David Paquet and Carlos Abad, as well as such writers as Luis Antonio de Villena and Eduardo Mendicutti, and which tells the story of the creation of the Visible LGBT Art Collection, which gathers more than a thousand works by 400 artists from 30 countries-; Love Wars (Vicente Bonet, 2012) -an original story of love between two imperial soldiers, which was screened at the Sitges Film Festival and won the Audience Award at Notodofimfest, a Special Mention in Libercine (Argentina) and an Honorable Mention in LesGayCinePty (Panama) -.
Both films can also be seen in the Lesbian Feel Special, which also contains such movies as: Spanish-American Synaptic (Carol Durrif, 2014), which won the Best Short Film Award at the Festival of Environmental Film and at the Euro 2015 Film Festival, and the Spanish Anita (Josema Roig, 2012), which participated in the Malaga Film Festival, won the Best Young Filmmaker Award at the Zaragoza Film Festival and was chosen by FOTOGRAMAS magazine as one of the Top 100 Best Short Films in 2012, among others.
Finally, the LGBT Fell Special contains some of the titles above, as well as others just as interesting ones such as the French film Tomboy (Claudine Natkin, 2006), a peculiar story of love affair between children, which earned it the Bronze Bear at the Festival of Nations (Austria) and the Award for Best Actress for Chloé Jager Berger at the Toronto Short Film Festival; The Son (Venci Kostov, 2102) Best Spanish Short Film at the 17th edition of LesGaiCineMad, FRAMER Partner Award at the FCM-PNR and the Youth Award at the Zinegoak Festival in that category- and the Spanish film Prophylaxis (Daniel Sanchez Arevalo, 2003)-starring Antonio de La Torre, which won the Second Prize for Best Short of the Community of Madrid at the Alcala de Henares Festival, among other honours.
A flat rate of 6 Euros provides access to all the content, over 500 films, which will be expanded as the Feel Specials get activated; that is, from this week to July 15. For 5 Euros, you can get access to each of the specials individually. All the films have been selected by Feelmakers, with support from the LesGayCineMad Film Festival selection committee, to which films may be submitted for the 2015 festival up through July 15 via the UPTOFEST website: (www.uptofest.com)
FEEL COMISSIONERS, one of the portal's distinguishing marks
This website's program was created for the purpose of expanding the market of legal online content to a general public that is quickly becoming more accustomed to new technology and paying to watch high-quality films via streaming. The portal features 3 international channels with specific content: FEELDOCS (documentaries), FEELSHORTS (short films) and FEELTOONS (animated films). What makes this portal’s uniqueness different from the philosophy of other existing VOD platforms is its international scope.
The site currently has an expansive catalogue of international films that can be viewed throughout the world. Using this platform, audiences from any country get the chance to view films by such prestigious filmmakers as Gracia Querejeta, Javier Rebollo, Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, Borja Cobeaga, Elías León Siminiani, Eduardo Chapero Jackson, Mateo Gil, Paco Cabezas and David Planell, among others. This website makes it possible for the public to view international films that are often hard to come by at commercial cinemas, but that have nevertheless earned awards at major international festivals.
Another one if its distinguishing characteristics is its FEEL COMISSIONERS, a group of experts who recommend their favorite films on the website. Such directors as Gracia Querejeta and Alberto Rodríguez have recently been joined by Shane Smith, the director of Special Projects at the International Film Festival of Toronto (TIFF) and Alice Khaurobi, head of Cannes Court Métrage, an entity created by the Cannes Festival in order to offer a 360º look at young worldwide creations in short film format and to spark creativity.
FEELMAKERS (www.feelmakers.com) was created at the initiative of three companies with a long background in the film sector: the agency of culture management Great Ways, the film and advertising production company Nephilim -both run by Luis Collar and Jorge Moreno- and the sales and distribution company at festivals Freak -with Millán Vázquez as CEO. In order to make this project feasible, agreements had to be reached with other leading international sales agencies, such as Taskovsky, Java, Scorpion TV, Imagina and Marvin & Wayne.
In addition, for the purpose of selecting the best documentary, animation and fiction short film on the world scene, the team travels to major international markets: IDFA, Annecy, Clermont Ferrand, Hot Docs, Ventana Sur, MIP DOC and MIP TV, among others. Lastly, the platform's content will be available on computers, tablets and smartphones. In addition, all LG Smart TVs worldwide will have an application with which to view FEELMAKERS (www.feelmakers.com).
