Eileen Doyle Named YANY's Executive Director

884.jpg

Young Audiences New York (YANY) is pleased to announce the appointment of Eileen Doyle as the new Executive Director. Eileen's strong background in leading the development of high quality, creative, "of the moment" programs for girls across the country will ensure that YANY contrinues to grow and evolve in meeting the needs of children in our City.

Eileen is eager to begin working with YANY's education, community and funding partners to develop the best strategies for advancing impact-driven arts education programs for kids. As Eileen and the YANY team start looking into the New Year, we'll be reaching out to hear your ideas about how we can best leverage our strengths to address the important issues facing children today.

We will be in touch in the next month or two to connect you and Eileen. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to her at edoyle@yany.org or 212.319.9269 Ext. 200 with any questions. You are also welcome to contact me at  jgarda@yany.org or 212.319.9269 Ext. 202. As always, we appreciate your support and eagerly anticipate collaborating on future projects.

Learn a little about Eileen Doyle

Eileen Doyle joined the Young Audiences New York team as Executive Director in December 2013. She brings a strong background in experiential education for kids and a deep desire to make more great "learning by doing" opportunities happen for more of the NYC kids who need us most to the Young Audiences family.

Eileen comes to Young Audiences from a fifteen year career at the national headquarters of Girl Scouts of the USA. As the Vice President for Program, Eileen had a leadership role in partnering with girls, volunteers and colleagues across the country to update the mission, develop an outcomes driven approach and create a national program portfolio relevant to the needs and interests of 21st century girls. Her favorite work was in the arena of service learning-supporting girls of all ages to take action, change their world-and creatively tell their stories too.

Driven by girl interest, Eileen guided efforts to incorporate the arts throughout the national program portfolio, ranging from the creation of characters and stories to engage little girls in character education (characters for character) to engaging middle school girls around putting the "me" back into the media they consume, and inspiring high school girls to create their own visions of a perfect world. Eileen also led efforts to correlate Girl Scout programming to educational standards, including the Common Core State Standards.

Eileen has a BA in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania, an MSW with a focus in Community Organizing from Hunter College and has participated in Coro's Leadership New York program. She has previously held leadership roles with Friends of Island Academy and the Town of Huntington Youth Bureau. In her early career days, she was a case worker for young people in an alternative to incarceration program.

Eileen is conversant in Spanish and, with her husband, who is from Honduras, has enjoyed recent trips to Honduras, El Salvador and Columbia. As an arts enthusiast, she enjoys dabbling in an art class or two here and there, getting to performances and, of course, New York's incredible museums. Eileen loves the intrinsic joy of experiencing art  and  the many ways art brings people together, teaching us about ourselves-and helping us change the world.
