Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Bas van der Ree assigned as Netherlands Film Commissioner

From July 1 2014 Bas van der Ree (1957) will head the Netherlands Film Commission, a new division of the Netherlands Film Fund.

The Netherlands Film Commission was launched in May 2014 at the International Cannes Film Festival alongside the new Netherlands Film Production Incentive. The simultaneous launch marked an integrated approach to the positioning of The Netherlands as a viable international production partner.

The Netherlands Film Commission serves as the main contact and service point for producers in the Netherlands and acts as the liaison between international producers and companies and professionals in the Dutch film industry.

Over the past two decades, Bas van der Ree has built an extensive track record within the Dutch and international film and media industries. Since 1994 he has worked both nationally and internationally as a location scout, production manager and line producer on many films, documentaries, television productions and television commercials. As a result he has developed both an impressive network and an unsurpassed knowledge of the opportunities that the Netherlands has to offer as a film and production location.

Films that Van de Ree worked on include Black Tulip (Preston Sturges Jr - 2014, USA), Francofonia (Aleksandr Sokurov - 2014, Russia), PBS NOVA (2013, USA), CZ 12 (Jackie Chan - 2010, Hong Kong), Blue Bird (Mijke de Jong - 2004, NL), Grimm (Alex van Warmerdam - 2002, NL), and Who Am I? (Jackie Chan - 1998, Hong Kong).

Doreen Boonekamp, CEO of the Netherlands Film Fund comments: "In Bas van der Ree we have attracted a highly experienced professional who has extensive knowledge of the Dutch film and media sector. Through his experience with foreign crews, he has a clear picture of the needs and demands of producers. "

The Netherlands Film Commission will work closely with existing local film commissioners in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Leeuwarden, Zeeland, Eindhoven and Maastricht, and will actively work to build on these partnerships. Van der Ree takes over from Jacques van Heijningen (former Rotterdam Film Commissioner) who helped develop the Netherlands Film Commission. He also helped publish the first Netherlands Production Guide and build the Commission website and database, as well as the co-ordinate the launch at Cannes.

The new Film Commissioner will work closely with EYE, responsible for the international promotion of Dutch films.

Filmcommission.nl is the new national portal for foreign film producers seeking information in English on all Dutch film professionals, businesses and locations.
