And the TWIST opening night film is...

Three Dollar Bill Cinema is thrilled to announce the world premiere of Clyde Petersen's feature film debut, TORREY PINES, as the Opening Night film of the 2016 TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival. The film will screen Thursday, October 13 at the Egyptian Theater with live musical accompaniment and foley.

An enthralling and visually stunning queer coming-of-age tale, TORREY PINES is based on Petersen’s fascinating life story. Set in Southern California in the early 1990s, the film follows Petersen’s complicated upbringing by a schizophrenic single mother. Fueled by family dysfunction and hallucinations of political conspiracy, parent and child take off on an unforgettable cross-country adventure that will forever alter their lives.

Three Dollar Bill Cinema was the Fiscal Sponsor for TORREY PINES during the three-year production process, during which Seattle filmmaker and artist Clyde Petersen painstakingly created this beautiful and profound stop-motion film.

Clyde Petersen is an award-winning filmmaker and animator. He has been a frequent participant in the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, including BOATING WITH CLYDE at the 2013 SLGFF, and MANDATE at the 2015 SLGFF.  In 2015, Clyde was named a Stranger Genius. He has exhibited art around the world, and toured extensively with his band Your Heart Breaks.

The live score for the TORREY PINES premiere will be performed by members of Your Heart Breaks and special guests, including Clyde Petersen, Zach Burba, Jacob Jaffe, Lori Goldston, Kimya Dawson, Corey J. Brewer, Chris Looney, Art Petersen and the Beaconettes. There will be live foley and soundscape by Susie Kozowa.

Earlybird passes for TWIST: Seattle Queer Film Festival, which include entry to Opening Night, go on sale this Friday, August 5, at twistfilmfest.org.

Founded in 1996 as the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, TWIST has grown into the largest event of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, gaining industry and audience recognition for showcasing the latest and greatest in queer film, from major motion picture premieres to emerging talent. This year's festival will take place October 13-23.

Anchoring the Seattle film community's fall calendar, the festival provides unique opportunities for visiting and local filmmakers to engage and entertain over 10,000 attendees. This year, #TWISTfilmfest broadens its scope to include even more forms of visual storytelling, with live performances and new programs to be announced soon. Look for the full program announcement, including all the special guests, parties, panel discussions, and more, in mid-September at threedollarbillcinema.org.
