Russian Pavilion Roskino Program in CannesThe Russian delegation at Cannes is represented by ROSKINO with the generous support of the Russian Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event is sponsored by Aeroflot Russian Airlines and the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Foundation.
At the 2015 edition of the festival, Russian filmmakers will be part of all its main sections as well as of the accompanying film market.
THE 68th INTERNATIONAL CANNES FILM FESTIVAL OFFICIAL PROGRAM This year, one of the most prestigious sidebars of the Cannes Film Festival, Cinéfondation, includes two entries from Russia: "Erkin's Return" by Mariya Guskova, alumna of the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors; and "14 Steps" by Maхim Shavkin (Best Short Film, Moscow IFF '2014), who graduated last year from the Moscow New Cinema School. The winner of the Cinéfondation award is entitled to premiere his or her next feature in the official program of the next year's Cannes IFF. The three awardees will be announced on May 22nd. Sixteen contenders are in the running.
THE RUSSIAN PAVILION AT VILLAGE INTERNATIONAL The Russian Pavilion will represent our country at the Cannes Festival and the Marché du Film Market for the eighth time. The Pavilion serves as a unified information center for Russian filmmakers, and as an integrated platform for increasing the international visibility of Russian filmmaking.
Russian Pavilion 2015 proudly presents: · "The Focus on New Russian Cinema" Presentation
New projects primed for international distribution and festival screenings will be presented to the Russian and international media, both print and electronic; sales companies; distributors; and festival curators. This year's selections include: A Union of Rags (directed by Mikhail Mestetskiy); The Petrushka Syndrome (directed by Yelena Khazanova); Smeshariki: The Golden Dragon Legend (directed by Denis Chernov); and others.
· Projects in development for co-production This program features highly original films with a mass-audience appeal. Among them are: Beirut (produced by Dmitry Rudovskiy, Fedor Bondarchuk, Dmitry Tabarchuk); A Steamship of Philosophers (produced by Alexander Tsekalo, Petr Shchedrovitskiy); Lenin (produced by Yelena Yatsura, Yuri Krestinskiy), etc.
· Press Conference held by the 37th Moscow IFF Committee The festival's lineup will be presented by MIFF General Producer Leonid Vereshchagin; MIFF Program Director Kirill Razlogov; MIFF PR Director Petr Shepotinnik.
· NEW CO-PRODUCTION RULES IN EUROPE Conference (with Producers Guild of Russia) Co-production is one of the few tools that allow Russian film to cross over internationally and, at the same time, contribute to the increase of the Russian share in international film distribution. The European Co-Production Convention, whose final draft will be adopted in April, is one of the instruments regulating relations among producers in this sphere. A round table featuring leading producers, representatives of international film foundations, and Russian Ministry of Culture, will be held at the Russian Pavilion. Some discussion topics include searching for the most efficient models of co-production, developing instruments of co-production, and embracing private initiative; success stories of earlier projects will be shared, and searches for new partners will be conducted. – State Support in Russia and Abroad – Russia-Europe-China-Hollywood: Case Studies – Project Development on the Way to Success Speakers include: Anna Mansi (British Film Institute); Katriel Schori (Director of Israel Film Fund); Leonid Demchenko (Russian Ministry of Culture; Russian delegate at Eurimages) etc.
· Presentation of Global Russians, annual short film anthology produced by ROSKINO DVD anthology of short films, released annually and presented in the Short Film Corner Section at the Cannes Film Festival. Out of this year's five picks, four were made by Aleksandr Sokurov's students at the Kabardino-Balkaria University, and one was made by the Aleksandr Sokurov Prize winner at the Saint-Petersburg International Media Forum '2014. · Presentation of two short films from the Russian Filmmakers Union Youth Center, and the recipients of the STRANA National Award Among them, "Semyon" (directed by Aleksandr Bryntsev) and "ABSOLUTION" (directed by Vadim Vatagin).
· Presentation of KINOBOOK-2014. Overview of the Russian Film Industry, annual guide to film business in Russia. The guide is compiled by the Nevafilm Research group, in collaboration with ROSKINO.
PRODUCERS NETWORK For the fifth year in a row, ROSKINO acts as an Associated Partner in Marche du Film–Producers Network, an official section of the Cannes Film Market. Russia is represented by projects with international potential in a professional section involving 550 producers from over 100 countries. This year, ROSKINO has accredited five producers to take part in this market section.
ROSKINO––RUSSIAN CINEMA JOINT STAND Marché du Film, the Cannes international film market, will take place from May 14th to 23rd, 2015, concurrently with the 68th Cannes International Film Festival. Russian film companies will be for the first time presented jointly at the ROSKINO–RUSSIAN CINEMA, co-organized by the Film Fund and ROSKINO and sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Culture.
Some of the perennial participants include such companies as: ART PICTURES, Central Partnership, STV, BAZELEVS, Mosfilm, Lenfilm, Glavkino, Profit, Kino Direction, Planeta Inform, RWS, Intercinema International Agency, WIZART ANIMATION, ROCK FILMS, RGDOC, MASTER FILM, Animated Pictures Association, Red Arrow, Reflection Films, and Ricky Producing Company. Applications have been officially submitted by over 35 film companies from Russia.
ROSKINO is set to present at the stand an updated catalogue of DOORS, the traveling international film market.
