Shortcut Romeo Hindi remake of Tamil Romeo to preem at Cannes

    Shortcut Romeo

Shortcut Romeo is an new Romantic thriller from India  Produced written and directed, by  southerner Susi Ganeshan  under his own banner,  Susi Ganesh Productions. This will be the directors first Hindi film and is a remake of his own 2006 Tamil box office hit "Thirittu Paysale".  Films which have been successful in the south are often picked up in Bombay and remade in Hindi with a new cast.  Ganeshan has already helmed half a dozen features in Tamil since 2002 and is a disciple of another senior Tamilian director, Mani Ratnam, who currently works mostly in Mumbai and is regarded as one of the most original and creative of all Indian directors whatever the language.  Much of the present film was shot in Kenya which is itself something of an eyebrow raiser.

The current Bollywood version stars Bollywood hearthrob  Neil Nitin Mukesh (who romanced Katrina Kaif in the box office hit "New York")  as Romeo, with Puja Gupta as his love interest.  Ameesha Patel appears in a negative role.  The film will be one of a number of new Indian pictures to be screened at Cannes in the festival's 66th instalment.
