The Gotham Goes to Berlin

51d30bde-572c-188c-f85d-0d0e28d090af.jpg

The Gotham's Executive Director, Jeff Sharp, and Director of International, Gabriele Capolino, will be on the ground at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, which kicks off today!

Screening as part of the Berlinale Series Market Selects will be Edgar Medina's Matilha (Dogpack), an alum of Project Market 2019. The seven-episode first season premiered last month on Amazon Prime Portugal and will air in weekly installments on Portugal's national broadcaster, RTP. It will screen at EFM on Feb 19 in CinemaxX 4 (Potsdamer Platz) at 11:30 AM.

The Gotham is also thrilled to be joined in Berlin by Brittany Franklin and Alex Woodruff, thanks to our partnership with EFM's Market Badge Inclusion Initiative:

Brittany Franklin is a social entrepreneur producing impact-driven work by way of film and visual arts. Her directorial work under her banner Cerebral Entertainment produces experiential and narrative work in the same vein of its name, as well as a new software for emerging producers. In 2020 she founded Minorities in Film (MiFILM), a collective dedicated to increasing equity for BIPOC & Disabled filmmakers. She is a recipient of the 2021 Sundance Uprising Grant Fund and the Barbara & Carl Zydney Grant for Artists with Disabilities. She is a 2022 Shondaland Women Directors Finalist, alum of RespectAbility x WarnerMedia Early Access Career Bootcamp, and a 2023 RespectAbility Entertainment Lab Director Fellow. Born hearing, now proudly Hard of Hearing, her work explores ways of communal growth and themes of identity, trauma, culture, and the evolution of civilizations. Brittany loves anime and science and is currently developing a series based on her life as a Disabled producer. She lives in her hometown of New York City.

Alex Woodruff, born and raised in Atlanta, is a multi-disciplinary artist, merging work in music, film, and technology. After sharing the stage with high-profile acts like Kendrick Lamar (2013) and Big Sean (2011), he founded Pineapple Cut Pictures with the purpose of directing films that reflect authentic black stories. His latest works, "Thomasville" (2024) and "Woodwork" (2024), serve as short proofs of concept for 94, an in-development surrealist feature based on his upbringing in The City Too Busy To Hate.

Finally, The Gotham is looking forward to co-hosting the EFM Toolbox Programmes Happy Hour on Monday, February 19, to celebrate the talented individuals selected for the programs in 2024.
