NEW MORNING FILMS @ EFM 2016

RETURNING HOME by Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken

NORWAY, 2015 // COMING OF AGE DRAMA // 73min // COMPLETED // MARKET DEBUT

Nordic Film Days Lübeck: NDR Prize (Main Award)

With: Åsmund HØEG (Sons of Norway, All That Matters Is Past), Fredrik GRØNDAHL (Troubled Water, Into the Dark), Ingar Helge GIMLE (Cross My Heart And Hope To Die), Lia BOYSEN (The Last Sentence, Search).

Two young brothers are forced to track down their absent father, having recently returned from service in Afghanistan, after he disappears during a reindeer hunt in the mountains.

Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken’s impressive debut is a thoughtful and poetic portrayal of two young brothers and their attempt to track down their father Einar after he doesn’t return after a hunting trip in the fells. He has just gotten home after a longer period of service in Afghanistan and is absent and branded by his war experiences. Already the first evening he sets out. The mother (Lia Boysen) is depressed and bed-ridden, and the oldest son Oscar has taken on a lot of responsibility for the younger brother Fredrik. During their journey together they are challenged by the need to make adult decisions and the insight that they have to take care of each other.

GEORGIA, 2016 // DRAMA // 108min // COMPLETED // MARKET DEBUT

WORLD PREMIERE // GÖTEBORG INT FILM FEST 2016 // THE INGMAR BERGMAN INTERNATIONAL DEBUT AWARD

With: Ekaterine Demetradze, Lasha Murjikneli, Lili Okroshidze, Lamzira Chkheidze, Keso Maisuradze, Konstantine Djandjagava, Luka Chachibaia.

The single mom Anna is forced to take three then four jobs to support herself and her autistic son who lives in a children’s home, and when the whole thing becomes too much to bear she decides to leave Georgia and travel to the US. But it’s easier said than done getting tickets and the fake visa she needs. The contact seems to have something to hide, and when the relationship with him falls apart, Anna panics and kidnaps his daughter. In the middle of everything Anna enters a relationship with a young man in the area where she lives.

The acting is magnificent in Nino Basilia’s first feature film, and with a moving, realistic style the film skillfully captures feelings of hope, guilt and grinding confinement.

USA, 2015 // DRAMA // 72min // COMPLETED

Written by Oscar Nominated Nicholas Kazan

With: James Callis (Battlestar Galactica, Bridget Jones's Diary), Maya Kazan (The Knick, Boardwalk Empire), Frank Medrano (The Shawshank Redemption, The Usual Suspects, Sleepers)

It is a story of seduction, retribution, and innocence lost. When a young woman is raped, will she sacrifice her humanity and her innocence to enact revenge on her attacker? "Blood Moon" asks the question: when a man’s casual approach to sex turns ugly, how far will a woman go to avenge herself?

“Kenneth Kokin’s brilliant directorial debut ‘Blood Moon’ is an engaging and gripping tragedy that’s worthy of being seen. Kokin also produced and directed second unit on several award-winning films that include the ‘The Usual Suspects’, ‘Captain Abu Raed’,’The Way of the Gun’ and ‘Mortdecai’.

Haunting, yet stylistically beautiful, the story follows a young woman who is raped and how she executes retribution on her attacker. It explores the transition from a perky, pretty teen-ager to someone who is forever warped from abuse and degradation.’
