Berlinale 2014: Panorama Audience Awards for Difret and Der Kreis

The public has cast its votes: the 16th Panorama Audience Awards - presented by the Berlinale’s Panorama section in collaboration with radioeins of Berlin-Brandenburg’s public radio and television station rbb, and tip Berlin, Berlin’s city magazine - go to Difret for best fiction film and Der Kreis (The Circle) for best documentary.

The official award ceremony will be held on Berlinale Kinotag, the special day of screenings for the public: Sunday, February 16 at 5.00 pm in CinemaxX 7 at Potsdamer Platz.

Panorama section head Wieland Speck, radioeins programme manager Dorothee Hackenberg and tip Berlin chief editor Stefanie Dörre will present the awards. Radioeins film expert Knut Elstermann will host the event. Directly after the ceremony, the winning fiction film will be shown. A screening of the winning documentary will follow at 8.00 pm, also in CinemaxX 7.

The Panorama Audience Award has been given since 1999. Since 2011, both the best fiction film and the best documentary receive awards. This year the winners will receive a new statuette.

During the Berlinale, moviegoers were asked to rate the films shown in the Panorama section, either on the cards received after the screenings or online. A total of 31,000 votes were cast and counted.

This year the Panorama presented 52 full-length films from 34 countries, of which 16 screened in the Panorama Dokumente series.
