AFMA Collections, a program originally conceived to assist AFMA members to generate additional revenue, has now expanded its mandate to include non-member companies. It also has a new director, Janet M. Gagnon.
Since its founding two years ago, AFMA Collectons has retrieved in excess of $3.5 million in international levies and royalties. The decision to expand beyond its core constituency is due to AFMA's realization that a “one-stop” collection and administration service did not exist for non-member independent motion picture and television companies.
AFMA Collections provides participating companies with the opportunity to retrieve their share of the accumulated dollars in international levies and royalties generated from the private copy levy, rental levy, cable retransmissions royalty and theatrical box office levy rights for the entire library for each participating company. To date, 76 companies, including NBC, Miramax, Rysher, Spelling and Trimark, have signed up for the scheme.
